I have visited Bueno Y Sano in the past and have always had pleasant experiences between the food which is consistently fresh, delicious, and vegetarian-friendly, and the service which is typically good. I was very disappointed, however, by the actions of a few staff members on the evening of 4/6/25. I walked in with my partner to pick up our orders around 15 minutes before close. The young lady who greeted and gave us our orders was pleasant and I waited by the pick up counter as my partner used the restroom. It is relevant to note that I am a non-Hispanic Black woman, my partner is Afro-Latina, and we were the only customers in the restaurant for the duration of our time there. While my partner was in the restroom, I heard a male cook refer to someone as "la negra" (feminine, black) and "la fea" (feminine, ugly) While this did not raise any alarms for me in of itself, I did take note when an older woman behind the counter looked to me before turning and responding to him asking, "la roja o la gris?" (the red or the gray). At this point, I had gone from being on my phone and overhearing those few words to looking at the staff intently, arms crossed, and visibly upset. After the older woman had asked "red or gray" after making eye contact with me, I looked down at my bright red sweater and waited anxiously as my partner walked out the bathroom, wearing what I can only assume to be the "gray" shirt to my "red" one. As she walked toward me, the young woman who took care of us' demeanor had changed entirely from pleasant and almost bubbly to reserved and seemingly worried, as if she had caught on to my own changing expression and, more likely, to my now evident comprehension of Spanish. While I cannot say the actions of a few represent the culture of Bueno Y Sano as a whole, I can say that it is extremely disheartening to think that the staff at this location subscribe to the ignorant idea that to understand Spanish is to look a certain way, an idea rooted in anti-Blackness. Besides the bold assumption that a Black woman, or ugly Black woman per the staff members' description, wouldn't be a Spanish speaker, the lack of professionalism in referring to any customer in that manner in any capacity is alarming and enough to leave anyone with no appetite and a bad taste in...
Read moreI really wish I could give Bueno 5 stars but today ruined it for me. I had been a loyal customer for nearly a year because they were reliable, have decent food and vegetarian options. Today though we ordered veggie chili nachos and a chick pea burrito with yogurt and no cheese. After about 25 minutes and watching everyone else get served food I went to ask about the nachos. It was aparant they had forgot when they pulled out burnt nachos from the oven. They kept yelling at me that it would just be a few more minutes as if they did not want me waiting at the counter. Then they put out the nachos completely forgetting about the other order. By this time my lunch was over so I had to ask for everything to go. When I finally got to open to container they gave me cheese and no yogurn on the burrito. Any restaurant I have ever been in that has screwed up an order has apologized and will usually give you something to ensure a happy customer. Bueno just yelled at me after forgeting my order and then got the...
Read moreThis morning, as I walked in into order a breakfast burrito, which I enjoy very much from this establishment I was greeted by a lady with glasses who was very polite and took my order as I awaited for my food to be done. I noticed that an odor woman was speaking in Spanish and giving me glaring looks. I can feel detention in between the restaurant like she had some animosity towards me I am a black male as I waited for my food to be done. She prepared my food, and as I went up to grab my food as she called it, she Said breakfast burrito, looked me up and down, roll her eyes and slapped The counter Instead of handing it to me with my hand out, I have encountered this type of behavior multiple times .this older lady is extremely racist, if she has a problem with serving people of color outside of her ethnicity, it would be ideal to move their business back to place that serves the type of people they want to serve race wise. This is really sad and pathetic and has no place in our...
