The Grotto West Coast Grill — Restaurant in Springfield

I had to witness the manager Mariah? argue with an employee regarding the time she gave me to pick up the order. I spoke with Mariah and she had absolutely nothing to say and I asked for her boss and the owner came out and said "what do you want me to do about it" I said wow nothing. Also found out when I got there that they ran out of rice and was going to be another 30 mins for our order. We placed a large order by phone about 1150 and I arrived early and boy the manager I guess didn't like the fact I was and tore into the employee waiting on me about she should have told me it was going to be much longer. The girl told me it would be an hour to hour and 20 mins. I like to always get there early and don't mind a little wait. Never treat your employees like this. I have been in management for a majority of my working life and I just can't believe you would belittle an employee in front of customers the Mariah did. The owner didn't seem to mind how the manager treat the employees either. I wish the employees at this establishment the best of luck working under such conditions. First time going to the Grotto and was not disappointed. They have burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, tacos, and appetizers. When you walk in the menu board is on the left, you look over it, and then order and pay at the register. The only negative that I have is that they try to pressure you into providing a tip immediately by having the tip screen pop up before you can pay. The only service they provide is bringing you your order. You get your own drinks, silverware, condiments, napkins, and refills so I am not sure why they ask for a tip. Anyway, the food was great. My wife ordered the grilled chicken meal with two sides. She got the side salad and sweet potato fries. She loved everything about it. The chicken was moist, the fries crunchy, and salad wonderfully seasoned. I ordered the Swiss burger and fries. The fries were hot and crispy and the burger was delicious with the house made aioli sauce. The only issue was that the burger was a tad dry, but not enough to say it wasn't delicious. We also ordered the chips and caso appetizer which was really good with the caso having a nice kick to it. Would return to try...

I’m not one to write something like this but I was really disappointed with the service I received today. I had come in to get a to-go order for me and my sister. When I walked in, the girl at the front looked at me and then continued to have a 5 minute conversation with someone in the back before she even acknowledged me. Then, while I was waiting for my food, I could see that everyone in the kitchen was either on their phones or just standing around. Normally, I don’t care because I get it, it’s pretty boring to do the same thing all day. But I was the only one with an order at that time and I waited there for almost 10 minutes before they even started making the food. While they were making the food, I had a clear, straight shot to the kitchen and watched them make my pasta. Unfortunately, I watched one of the kitchen staff take a piece of chicken off of my bowl, eat it, and then put the lid back on and give it to the front worker to give to me. I was really disappointed in the service and extremely disgusted that someone was eating my food....
