If I could give zero stars I would. As a new resident of Springfield, I was really excited to try Hickory Inn, based on several great recommendations and reviews they received. We decided to take my in-laws from out of town for dinner last night before going to see the lights downtown with my toddlers. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30pm, and were seated promptly. Our drink order was taken and drinks came out quickly. My Bud Light was cool at best. My 3.5 year old daughter was given a large glass, full, with no lid, (which of course ended up being spilled all over the table and floor.) The restaurant filled up quickly, but our order was taken before the others. We all ordered sandwiches, and the kids has cheeseburger and chicken tenders.
Apparently, we should have ordered pizza. The tables that ordered pizza after our order was placed, were served promptly and paid and left before our food was served. Our server Barb was doing a great job keeping up with all her tables, but at 7pm, our food still had not come out of the kitchen. Barb was very apologetic, and was then informed by the kitchen that they were out of roast beef for my sandwich. I quickly ordered another sandwich so the rest of the tables order wasn't held up any longer. Our food was served around 7:10pm. My 3 year olds cheeseburger came out very last. I'm so thankful my children were patiently waiting, as they didn't get their dinner until an hour later than normal.
Our food was very disappointing. Sandwiches were mediocre at best. My mother in law's ham sandwich was awful. By the time we finished eating, it was past the kids bedtime.
The owner, stood behind the bar the entire night (with his mask hanging off one ear), obviously not caring about the kitchen service the patrons of his establishment was receiving. I don't see this local restaurant lasting much longer if this is the way they operate. I know we will not...
Read moreAt first the food was fabulous.. then I tasted my Cole slaw it was spoiled I vomited 2 times while In the restaurant. I asked a waitress about the Cole slaw before I was sick because I thought maybe they just made it different they said no we make it here. I was then informed it was the last of a huge pan they offered the fresh batch it was fine. Then the food poisoning set in QUICK! Never was acknowledged by mgmt at all. When I returned from the bathroom the waitress had taken off 6.95 from a 40.00 bill the price of sodas. I explained to her that I did not want any of my food I wanted my $ and a manager. the manager never bothered to show up that waitress return and said the manager said to take the price of my meal off and the sides so I said okay I didn't want free food that was not the point I just wanted someone to acknowledge the fact that they knew that they served me rancid coleslaw the waitress once again apologized I paid her and also left her a very hefty tip because like I said free food was not the point of the visit I just wanted someone to apologize for the fact of what they had done to me and then when I get to the car I realize they still didn't take the prices of my meal off. they only removed another 795 the cost of the sandwich there was also the 395 it cost to upgrade the $0.50 that it cost to upgrade the soup as well as two appetizers but that's okay if they enjoy robbing people and that's their thing that's okay I had visited there just the week before and told everyone I spoke to that it was the best place in town to eat and they have the most wonderful food that I have ever tasted I now regret those remarks. What is the food is fresh it is wonderful but for the price that you pay I don't think it's too much to ask for a manager to take...
Read moreOh man… what a disappointment this was. I grew up in Springfield and this restaurant was my father’s favorite growing up. I haven’t been in there in at least 15 years. The place was dated and dreadful when I was a kid, no shocker, it still is! Firstly we were sat and menus were just tossed on the table by a women with an attitude problem, said nothing, bolted off. Okayyyyy. I noticed the menu (though very diverse) was way too extensive, but whatever. I selected the meat ravioli, and my boyfriend got the full rack of ribs. The ribs were rubbery, stringy, and barely warmed up… the sweet sauce had a weird after taste. They just tasted old. My neat ravioli was cheese… I brought the waitress over to show her, but the next one I cut into was meat 😐 making me look crazy. I was like ok okay, maybe just one made it in there. NO, though the meal I kept unexpectedly biting into cheese ones mixed with my meat ones. 😩 the waitress said there must have been a mishap in the kitchen. The “Texas toast” was sliced bread, burnt, AND wet somehow. At the same time. My husbands fries tasted like old grease. 🤢 the apple sauce side he got was served too him in a dip cup. 🙄 The manager/ owner… idk who it was because of course she didn’t introduce herself, came over, seemed skeptical of my complaints. (Mind you, I only stated like 2 things out of my list as to not come off shitty) she said “let me take some of that off for you. Then we still got a bill for $40. Just… eww. Bad customer service, bad management, bad food, awful atmosphere. (We unscrewed the light above us because we were holding out hands over our faces to see each other as if the sun was in our eyes 🫠🫠) it was a 100w bulb. Why? lol anyway. Get pizza, to go....
