Viva La Fiesta is yet another Mexican restaurant in a town that seems to have a 4:1 ratio of citizens to Mexican restaurants. So it really needed to stand out to this Mexican restaurant super fan. Or... more aptly, margarita super fan. Viva La Fiesta has a fun, colorful atmosphere, something one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Dayton area (Condados Tacos at The Greene... outstanding food and drinks) does not and which severely hurts it, so point goes to VLF. The food is very predictable, mid-tier Mexican restaurant fare. While VLF has a menu with some slightly unique items, ultimately this is El Toro or Casa Del Sabor or El Speedy Vaquero or any other local Mexican place. It all tastes the same. You need to get to Condados or Agave & Rye (Centerville) to get something more unique.
But the real litmus test for a Mexican restaurant is the margarita. I skipped the house blend and went for an upper tier selection. It was not at all potent, and ultimately tasted extremely tangy and syrupy... almost thick. El Toro's Cadillac margaritas are still my local Springfield favorite, but the best in the Dayton area is Agave & Rye's Epic Rita.
If you're looking for a different atmosphere from the usual suspects in the Springfield area, give Viva La Fiesta a chance, but don't go in expecting something fundamentally unique. Our server (can't remember name, sorry) was very pleasant and very funny, and ribbed the restaurant manager pretty well. Great service. But ultimately a predictable dining experience with sub...
Read moreI will only be going to Troy’s location from now on due to knowing them on a more personal level. Food is phenomenal as always… but wow… our server was rude tonight. We had all gotten margaritas, all made differently. I made sure to ask for mine frozen, with sugar, and he brought it back incorrectly, on the rocks. I told him “oh I’m sorry sir, but I ordered mine frozen” and he looked at me and goes “no you ordered on the rocks that’s what you told me”. I responded “oh no, I said frozen with sugar” and he said “no no I heard you correct the first time, you ordered on the rocks but I’ll fix it I guess, just don’t make me make it incorrectly the first time” He walked away and my whole table looked at each other like “what the heck was that? Is he serious?” Anyway, he comes back with my frozen margarita, and it ended up being salt on the rims. Not my style, so I had to wipe it all off, as the attitude of correcting me on what I KNOW I drink was just too much, that I didn’t want to upset him again that he had gotten it wrong for a second time. I have always ordered my margaritas the same no matter what. Frozen with sugar. So for him to argue with me over remaking a drink was just so unprofessional. Again… he could’ve been joking, but it definitely didn’t feel that way. Food was good, but service… never again. I’ll stick with Troy. They’re amazing people and when they make mistakes, they always kindly fix it. I swear I’m not a Karen, but it was such an...
Read moreHad a dinner with Family and wanted to try the new place downtown. The atmosphere when you walk in is great, and the art work makes it stand out compared to your typical Mexican restaurant in Springfield. We were greeted and sat down immediately. Our server was was fast and got us started with drinks and apps. When I opened my menu to look for dinner options the pages were stuck together with dried up salsa. No biggie, onto the next menu. My friend ordered the special Hot or Inferno margarita that comes in a special glass with a special rim, and also has a flame on top to blow out. He was excited, but it came with no special rim and no special glass. Did have the flame on top, but it's pricy to not be made correctly. Asked for the rim to be brought out in a dish to try since it wasn't on the glass, but it never made it to the table. We didn't fuss, Things happen. When the appetizer came we had to ask for plates and napkins, therewas 5 of us sharing. The food was great and they have a lot of different Mexican dishes that other's do not offer in town. All in all I would have given a 2 due to service lacking basic restaurant standards, but its a new place and things happen. You provide an amazing atmosphere then hang yourself with the service provided. All of your drinks should look like the menu you created, especially your specialty drinks that cost so much. We...
