Bogart's — Restaurant in St. Charles

This place has such a cool vibe, but it all gets ruined at the front door by the bouncer/door holder. My buddy and I have been skipping all the other bars and go straight to bogarts for the vibe, drinks and a slice of pizza. Yesterday I had a new paper ID printed in the morning at the DMV. Later that night we decided to go to Bogarts. We walked in at 8:15 PM and were greeted by a very rude and upset looking bouncer (long gray beard). After checking my buddies ID I handed him my new paper ID and said it was just printed this morning. The bouncer absolutely lost his cool And became very unprofessional. He proceeded to say that’s not a funny joke and starting threatening to confiscate my ID and I would need to call the police to get my id back. My buddy and I looked at each other and walked straight out the doors. They lost $200 that night not a huge deal, but definitely not going to recommend this bar to anyone else going forward and definitely won’t be the main bar for the town. I’m leaving at 2 star review as all the other times I’ve been in there have been an positive experience but this latest experience had left a bad taste in my mouth before even getting a drink. My friend had a paper ID copy , not expired or anything totally valid. I’m a few years older than them and I am the bar tender at the job we all work at, so I would know. There was 0 reason to deny us. Not coming back. Replying to the business reply: not one of our hard copy IDs was run through a scanner. He legit just looked at mine quickly and handed it back. My picture on my ID doesn’t look like me at all anymore but he barely even batted an eye at it and gave it back. We went to two other bars with the paper ID AND work at a bar… again. I know bartenders can deny as they please, but there was not a single thing wrong with her ID. Your bartenders need to be refreshed on how to actually spot fakes. Sorry but will not recommend this place to people now, that was ridiculous and it was my first time there and we came from pretty far to check it out. Not a good impression. I Genuinely like bogarts. It’s a great place to go out with a group. A big plus is that they sell Taylor St pizza which is super nice for a night out. My only complaint and the biggest issue I have is the incredibly rude bouncer. He had a longer pointy beard with long hair. when we tried to walk into the establishment he held the door and wouldn’t let us in. Confused because it was only 12:40am and they are open until 2am. I also was not wasted/ obliterated so there was no reason not to let us in. When I asked for a reason, the response I got back was “because I don’t want to, I make the rules” quote on quote exactly what was said and then slammed the door shut in front of my face.
