Fantastic little Venezuelan eatery. Food is flavorful, service is friendly, decor is ethnic but not in your face (picnic tables, a few masks and hammocks on the painted white walls). Clean food, clean dining area. Prices reasonable. Food takes a little while to appear as each table's order is prepared as requested. Vegetarian options available (and are very tasty!). Eaten here twice (dine in both times) and came away satisfied with leftovers both times. This is not a high end restaurant but a casual eatery with really yummy, affordable home style ethnic food. The only reason I don't want you to patronize this establishment is because I don't want to wait behind you in line to eat this delicious food. So please come and offer this restaurant your business when I am not around! Notoriously hyper critical boyfriend gives it a four star review. Edit 8NOV2024: make sure that you try the lunch special chicken soup. The cubes of homemade cheese made the dish absolutely exquisite. Boyfriend now regards this out of the way place as his go-to for when I treat him to...
Read moreGood food, but pricey for downtown St. Louis city! One arepa is $4. One empanada is $5 and a stuffed arepa will run you $12+. The empanadas are crispy, flaky and sweet dough. The corn pancake was stuffed and fulfilling. I will definitely go back....11-17-2024 Reply to Owner.... St Louis consumers tend to connect with brands on a personal level at comparing prices, location visibility, entree choices and etc... Statistics has proven in America that a business will lose up to 5 years of profit before seeing a significant gain. The downtown city of St. Louis is still undergoing reconstruction with a long way to go compared to 30 plus years ago. This city is a melting pot in some geographic areas but NOT a demographic melting pot in it's entirety downtown. Remember Venezuelan food is new to the area and city which is less than five years. You want first time clients to turn into long term clients. Wheel...
Read moreSo happy I finally got to eat at this restaurant. It had been at the top of my "Want to Go" list for ages, and I'd actually moved away but got to try it when I returned for a visit.
I didn't realize arepas were so large! I think I'd tried a small one at Festival of Nations that was all contained in a small round piece of dough. But this was a piece of dough the size of a saucer, split open and stuffed with chicken, black beans, plantains, and crumbled white cheese (queso fresco?). I got a side of tostones with crema, and the cilantro sauce on the side. Between those two items and a delicious Cuban coffee, I was positively stuffed when I left.
The owner was so sweet and friendly. She made sure the coffee was how I liked it, and patiently refilled my ice water, as I'd walked from the train station. She also sang along softly with the music playing, and the joy she found in singing while she worked was infectious.
I was very pleased with every aspect of my meal and hope to return when I'm...
