Nice fall like day in August. What better than to open the garage doors and let the beautiful weather in. Upon parking, which surprisingly wasnt an issue, was welcomed by warm and inviting staff. Briefly glanced at the menu and found many wonderful options. Best way to judge a place is to stay with what you know so I went with a Quad Espresso. FYI, KETO fans, they do have heavy cream!!!
The location and unique build, renovated old service station, was a nice fit for the neighborhood. Very homey feel. Brilliant use of one of the service bays is a walk up order and refill station connected to the inside barista stations. Amongst a few parking spots in the off street parking lot in front, there is also parking behind the quaint and well appointed patio as well as plenty of on street parking. Seating inside or out is far enough off of Watson that the traffic noise was barely noticable even at busy times.
Stayed in to enjoy my beverage and take in the scenery and atmosphere. Nice ballance of customers, not too busy, but steady and comfortable. Music was loud enough to hear and drown out other conversations without being intrusive to conversations had amongst friends. Smiles and pleasantries all around, great crowd.
The espresso, in no way dissapointed, and in my top five. I have enjoyed espresso in many states, other countries known for espresso, and places where good espresso is taken for granted let alone great espresso. Flavor was a fantastic profile which had none of the typical burnt flavors of "other"places. Mouthwatering tannins and tame bitters on the front end with simple sweetness on the backend. Balanced botanicals with a wonderful earthyness throughout made this pallet very happy.
All-in-all, will be back to patronize this wonderful giant in the making. They have the bluprint for success and its proven by a successful second store. Stick to the prints! Well wishes for many more successful openings and years of great beverages! Can't wait until...
Read moreGreat coffee, mostly friendly service, good vibe, and standard prices for high end coffee.
Blueprint on Watson is a more chill location than the one in the loop and the only downside is fewer/different food options (really I'm just disappointed about not having biscuits at Watson).
The coffee at blueprint is top notch. They tend towards the bright /tangy side of the bougie coffee spectrum, but that is certainly not a bad thing. Beverage craft level is high, presentation is good, and flavor (most important) is always spot on.
Service at Watson is either super friendly and informative, or slightly hands off and informative, depending who is working. They are always happy to help newbies find their way through the menu, and Keen to offer insights for the afficcionados. The only question is whether you get a smile and a personal touch or not.
Space has a good vibe, although (much like Delmar location) the seats are all fairly uncomfortable (to my butt/back anyway). You go, you drink coffee and chat, you leave without lounging around for hours on end. Music is sometimes great and sometimes on the 'out there' side. GREAT place to sit outside during warmer months.
The prices will surprise fans of Dunkin donuts, but that's the case at any craft coffee spot. On target for other spots in town (Sump, Coma, etc). Food selection is minimal and not my style so I shy away.
Overall worth going to, and a place that is in my regular rotation to grab a cup if I'm not planning on working for a...
Read moreBeen going here for several years.
The good:
Some of the tastiest artisan coffee in all of STL. Not the best, but up there. knowledgable staff cool space in the warmer months convenient location for those in the neighborhood
The bad: The absolute slowest coffee shop I’ve been too, this includes several international trips for coffee destinations. I timed my average wait for coffee this year there and it’s about 14 minutes. Absurd lol. This is indicative of poor process management.
They don’t open until 8. Very weird choice for a coffee shop. Like a “pour and play” coffee shop, not one that supports its normal functioning/working neighbors members who are all at work/kids dropped off by 8. Opening at 6 or even 7 would make them a more viable “daily” coffee option for some.
A little over priced for quality/quantity ratio. 16 dollars for 2 lattes.
Staff used to be friendlier/more engaging several years ago - would entertain your nerdy coffee conversation. Now they are “business” and unpersonable. Has Seinfeld Soup Nazi vibes. Hints of “it’s cool to be pretentious and unfriendly”.
Overall: I love the coffee, but it’s an event to go there and get it. Place is better suited for those who have time to kill and no schedule to keep. Seems good place for “coffee date” but not a good everyday set up for coffee. Staff does the job, but not as engaging as they used to be. Is still recommend it to people but with all the above warnings first. Often they...
