This was our first time at Edera, a new Italian in our area we wanted to support to help out during COVID. I appreciate the challenges of running a restaurant during this time, so we will definitely give them another try once things are back to normal, but this wasn't a great experience, and it came at a high price.
Our server, while nice, was overly casual and did not explain the menu or the specials to us. Indeed, we only found out there were specials when another server explained them to a table close by. It was particularly disappointing because my husband would have selected one of the specials had he known about them. No bread service, no offer of salt or pepper, no offer of cheese at the table - none of the things I expect at a high-end Italian restaurant.
The starter, two lamb and pork meatballs, was tasty and hot, but in our judgment too loose: it fell apart at first forking. Entrees were underwhelming: my pappardelle Bolognese was under-seasoned and rather tasteless (no, I don't have COVID =P), and too watery to adhere properly to the pasta. The pasta was reasonably well-cooked, but there were a few clumps which suggested under-stirring. This is not really forgivable in an Italian restaurant with a very limited menu.
The restaurant looks gorgeous, but is much too loud: there is no fabric anywhere (carpets, drapes) to absorb the sound, and if it is as noisy as it was last night with limited occupancy, it will be a nightmare when full. This was exacerbated by some contemporary pop music over the speakers, which didn't tonally seem to fit the atmosphere the space creates.
Cocktails were a high point: the person behind the bar clearly knows what they were doing. They were tasty and presented well (if a little short on alcohol).
We were a party of 2 adults; we each had 2 cocktails (so 4 in total); two appetizers and one main in total; no dessert - with tip the check came to about $125. This is an expensive meal, and it wasn't good enough to warrant that price. You can get better Italian for less elsewhere in the city, with a better atmosphere and more...
Read moreUpdate: The management responded to my review and asked that I reach out which I did. I told him upfront that I did not want any compensation but was simply sharing my experience so they could address and improve the issues. He was very kind and insisted on making things right by refunding both parties meals and passing the info along to the chef. This was handled timely, professionally and the right way. We’ve had incredible meals in many cities but some horrible experiences as well. It’s how they choose to respond to the negative that sets them apart and we remember that. Thank you, Edera! We had higher expectations given the location/pricey menu and were disappointed. We reserved a chalet outside which was fun in its own but thought there’d be a bit more atmosphere. Lights outside but only visible to one side of the table while the other couple had the side of the building to look at. Food: The smoked caesar salad had a nice flavor but the Romain was very limp as if it had been pre-made and sitting for 15-20 minutes, prior. The steak was a poor cut so even though we ordered it Med rare -it was a challenge to cut through with steak knives. Side note: the shape of the plates made it impossible to rest our knives between bites as they kept sliding off the sloped edges and fell flat in the pool of sauce on the plate. We went through 3 knives for one entree! Our friends got a pizza and bowl of pasta. He only ate half the pasta which was swimming in cream sauce and opted out of bringing the rest home. I will say that our waiter was really great ( thank the lord) or we would’ve had a miserable night. We won’t...
Read moreI thought we would try the new CWE Italian eatery tonight since we strongly promote delicious restaurants that we hope we’d experience this evening. We love The Hill and routinely dine out. However, what an unusual circumstance. Humiliating at best. Disgusted and embarrassed to take my fiancé to a cold, below the standard of any restaurant I’ve been to in St. Louis and my world travels. When you arrive you must order at the front desk before you even see the courtyard. Your drinks, your appetizer, your main meal, you must order at the front desk. You are given a number to take to the table you choose. Then, a waitress, and others, begin to deliver your drinks, salad, meal, in sealed containers. The containers, each, can not be open. It took each of us spending over 5 minutes each to open our salad and pasta. We are given plastic utensils sealed in a bag with napkins, and small paper plates for our meals. The pasta above average, the salad wilted and brown, the drinks 4 oz each, our bill, $70.00. It felt like a beautiful courtyard with a Italian food truck around the corner, plastic wear and plastic containers with all food sealed. My fiancé splattered red pasta sauce on her just purchased new dress attempting to open her plastic pasta meal. Never will I ever even walk past this restaurant due to feeling of disgust. I attempted to call after 9 p.m. to complain. Impossible, “please type in the first three letters of who you are...
