I waited to post this after a second visit. The first time we came the service was terrible. Our waitress was dismissive and rude. The hostess seemed like she’d rather be anywhere but work. We had a wait which we expected but once we were seated we waited another 30 minutes before we even were offered water. For two people it took 2.5 hours out of our day without any “lounging” by choice….the lack of organization and extreme waiting for everything was disappointing. I knew they were brand new and it was a Saturday afternoon so we wanted to give them some time to get more staff and organized and tried them again this past weekend.
We had a family of 5 and the same unfriendly hostess when we arrived. I ordered and paid for a coffee flight and two additional coffees when we checked in. We were told our wait would be about 30 minutes. About 30 minutes went by and we were seated, still no coffee. About 20 minutes later our waiter finally arrived, he was super friendly and apologized. He took our order and we told him about the coffee order we placed almost an hour prior. Another 15 minutes passed and finally arrived the coffee. About 10 minutes later came our food. One of us ordered a hot latte to go when the waiter dropped the food off. We ate and about 20 minutes our waiter came to check on us, we reminded him of our coffee. We finished eating and didn’t see our waiter again. Another waitress walked by and asked us if we needed anything, we told her we were waiting on the coffee and check. She said ok….our waiter came back with the check, took a few plates and we didn’t see him again. The unfriendly hostess circled our table before approaching and stating “unfortunately if you are done you can’t sit and wait or drink coffee”. I’ve never been asked to leave a restaurant as a paying customer, even at the best of the best restaurants. I’ve sat at high end steak houses for hours drinking wine after a meal so I was surprised a coffee/brunch “lounge” would ask us to leave especially when they made the mistake, we would have been gone 20 minutes already if we had the one latte we ordered 40 minutes prior. The entire table, as well as the table next to us that heard the conversation thought it was super rude and very odd. Luckily a wonderful waitress whom wasn’t ours came by and personally made our to go coffee. She seems like she knows what she’s doing but also seemed irritated at her coworkers for the situation.
We tried it twice and the service was worse the second time. This place needs a complete customer service reboot. Multiple staff seems like customers are a bother and have no organization to manage a busy place. The social media presence screams to try this eatery but when you get there the employees make you feel less than welcomed. I won’t be trying it a third time and I really...
Read moreI am going to be honest. The environment reminded me of a club scene at brunch hours. The server was nice but messed up my water. I said no ice and lemon. I believe my server was 16. Most of them are very young teenagers. I will say it was very clean, and the setup was nice. However, after eating at Beyond Sweet by owner Dallas Holland-Mims the food didn't meet my quality expectations. Unfortunately, the Beyond Sweet restaurant was destroyed by the tornado. The Beyond Sweet resteraunt combined shakes, a full bar, and signature chef inspired dishes with a dress code policy. I don't want to see customers looking hoochie and ratchet in a place I eat at. Maybe Saturday brunch has people still out from clubing and drinking on Friday nights. This is a young crowd, not an older seasoned group of classy adults. It's probably best to go on a weekday or Sunday morning during lunch, but still expect high prices. If you want an upscale environment for brunch, I don't recommend this place. My omlette was barely average. I prefer egg whites, and the eggs tasted dry. I didn't see egg whites on the menu. I was told later they have egg whites after my complaint. Honestly, my meal at "First Watch" tastes much better for half the price. Waffles are small compared to First Watch. Side of fruit $5 for a baby small plate. Mimosas child size sippy cup. They use plastic cups and plates. Not dishes or glasses. You will not have glasses or chinaware plates. You get full size glasses, nice dishes, and half the price at First Watch. First Watch has better choices. "First Watch" the meal comes with "fresh" fruit and potatoes not an extra charge. Also, some people are not focused on traditional southern fried dishes. I don't eat fried chicken, fried fish, or shrimp and grits, which received high ratings from other customers. I also don't drink lattes or coffee. I came for a birthday outing, and the reviews were good. Sadly, I was disappointed. I'm coming for good food and unfortunately will not be returning. The total for two people to eat for food only with tip & tax expect to spend at least $60. The long wait time was ridiculous. If you are pressed for time, don't come here. If you want a pleasant, peaceful setting with decent wait times and great tasting chef inspired meals for half the price, don't come here. Here are my top 3 brunch choices: Beyond Sweet. (Best choice). First Watch. Mimi's Cafe "New Orleans...
Read moreWe arrived before they opened at 11 because most brunch places in the area don’t take reservations and we needed to get seated and eat brunch before the matinee at the Fox. There was a line forming outside, but when they opened and it was our turn, we did get seated right away…and then waited probably at least 10 minutes for a server to come to our table. It looked like they only had two servers and couldn’t handle the full house they immediately had when they opened, which should be expected on a Sunday morning. We gave our food and drink order and then waited another 10 minutes for her to even bring the water. I thought it might be because she was waiting for the coffees to be made, but they didn’t come then either. One positive was we were able to substitute breakfast potatoes for the eggs that were supposed to come with our meals (Belgian waffles for me, French toast for my friend).
Now for the food review: My friend got an iced chai tea and she said it wasn’t good. My daughter wasn’t impressed by her iced latte either. We were all disappointed a brunch place didn’t even have mimosas on the menu. I only got water and never had it refilled (a big pet peeve of mine as I usually only get water because I don’t drink caffeine). My specialty banana nut waffle had 5 measly, mushy banana slices on top and I couldn’t even tell you what nut because I never bit into a big enough, crunchy nut. But the waffle and syrup had good flavor (even though it was a bit mushy, that might be due to the fact that it’s a Belgian waffle and I drowned it in syrup because syrup is good). Best thing by far was the breakfast potatoes. Crispy skin, cooked well, flavorful with some diced peppers and onions. My daughter got the loaded hash browns and was disappointed by the barely melted American cheese on top. Besides the cheese, she seemed to enjoy it. She got very few shrimp. Overall, we probably won’t be back, but there’s probably a couple good things on the menu and maybe service is better in a...
