Despite the laid-back, bleary-eyed, dazed and confused outside appearance of the whole affair, The Biscuit Joint does really take the humble biscuit, makes it good, (and square,) and creatively expands its breadth and usage to expand the minds of all who walk in!

The "biscuits" from the "joint" are in fact very good! And so is the gravy. Seldom are such places seem that excel at both biscuits AND gravy, but here on Washington Avenue such thing exists! We went here and I got the SAGE AND MUSHROOM biscuit and gravy, the FRENCH TOAST, and the CINNAMON ROLL, and I enjoyed it all.

The vegetarian gravy with sage and mushrooms is great, (Perfectly flavorful and viscous,) and complements the buttery biscuit really well - savory-thing-wise, they're cookin'.

But where this joint really shines is in its dessert biscuits. The French toast rotates seasonally, and we got the spring's: bread pudding. The Verdict: great. Wonderful custard, great fresh strawberry, wonderful flavor.

But the best item on the menu, by FAR, is the "cinnamon roll." With biscuit dough, it's perfectly crispy and flaky throughout, and the texture is absolutely impeccable. The cinnamonyness is accentuated by a tiny bit of ANISE! This is not a stale-tasting standard cinnamon roll, but a totally novel confection unique to this corner of midtown. Good Job!

In summary, the biscuits are amazing and buttery and flaky and perfect, and every item has its own spin on it. I will say that the music was too loud though, and did feel a bit suffocating. (For me at least.) Still an incredible restaurant! Definitely...

This would normally average out to a 3 star experience, but due to allergy misinformation, it has to be 2.

Went in for a quick breakfast on our way out of town. Website and reviews looked cute and we were excited to try some place new.

The space is cute - industrial coffee shop vibes, greeted cheerfully, everything smells good. It is, however, tiny, and all the seating is high top. It's also LOUD. Difficult to hear yourself think or carry on a conversation.

It's a walk-up order and then they bring food to you. We had a variety of things - tater tots, biscuits and gravy, GOAT chicken sandwich, OG breakfast sandwich, a cinnamon roll, and some coffee. The cinnamon roll was AMAZING. The tots were pretty good, but they were over-fried and very greasy. OG sandwich was good, not great. The chicken sandwiches are disappointing - was NOT expecting a thin, frozen chicken patty and jarred pickles sliced so thin you can't taste them.

But the real problem was the sausage gravy. A member of our party has an onion allergy. We asked when checking out about the dishes we'd be sharing, and we were assured they would all be fine. The food came out, and there were onions cooked into the gravy! Thankfully, we check all our food before eating, but disregarding allergy inquiries is completely unacceptable. And on top of this, I am a gravy purist and don't think it should have contained onions for culinary reasons either. It was also broken and had standing grease in it.

They only offer drip coffee, and it's terrible. Weak and burned tasting at...

3.5 stars. An extra half star for good on-site service. I've tried these guys twice, once immediately after they opened and again a few weeks ago. I'm a biscuits and gravy fanatic and had to give these guys a shot. Sadly, I've been disappointed both times. The big shocker on my first visit was that the chicken cutlet I ordered a la carte, intending to give it the "chicken fried chicken" treatment with my biscuits and gravy, gave me food poisoning. But also, I was surprised that it had a chicken patty-like consistency; I was expecting boneless chicken breasts pounded flat and fried. In any case, it looks like they don't offer chicken cutlets a la carte anymore anyway.

The real question was whether or not the biscuits and gravy would be on point. To that end, I give them a solid three stars. Both times I ordered, my biscuits were super gummy and a bit too dense. The gravy was decent, though the addition of maple syrup threw me off when I ordered their sausage gravy the second time around. I thought I'd try something different, and, well, the sweetness just wasn't working with an otherwise savory dish. Their tots were reliably fresh and crunchy, just a bit over-salted each time. Attached to my review you should see my last order: a fourteen dollar, full order of biscuits and gravy, with each biscuit being roughly as tall and wide as the spined section of an average fork.

Eh. I don't think I'll be giving them a...
