I was excited to try this restaurant as I’m in search of great tacos is the STL area. It’s located in the food hall at the foundry and not a stand alone restaurant. First impressions were šŸ‘ŽšŸ¾ The guy at the counter looked like I was interrupting something more important to him. I asked if I could get the sauces on the side and he flatly explained that there are no modifications. I told him I didn’t want to chance there being something in the sauce that I couldn’t have. He blinked at me and stared so chance it I did. We tried the pork tacos which weren’t bad but could have been done better. The come 2 to and order. The pork belly skin was not properly rendered and ate so sticky it stuck to my teeth. The tacos were generously filled but made it almost impossible to eat all components together. The sauces were bright and acidic which helped cut the fat off the protein. Overall not bad but not sure I’ll try it again.

Wow... 2nd time to the City Foundry... after looking around the special here attracted me... then when talking to the guy behind the counter his passion for the food sold me on this being the place of my choosing this time. He even took a selfish with me. šŸ˜€ The portions were generous, the flavors were amazing, the meat had both tender and crispy qualities about it. The sauces they gave me each exploded with flavors... the Verde sauce they gave me was by a very long way the best Verde sauce I've ever had to date at any Mexican restaurant I've been to. If I were to complain about something... it would be that it is pricey... my meal alone was $20 + tax... but the portions were large and I actually wasn't able to finish my plate. I wish I would have taken pictures so I gave you all I got... what's left of my plate and the restaurant. LoL, sorry, I'll do better next time.

The City Foundry is an interesting place. A collection of "takeout" restaurants not unlike the old food courts at a mall BUT a much more upscale experience. Chef Alex, at Sureste served us a fantastic meal. We ordered two different tacos, cochinita pibil tacos and panuchos. Both were fantastic and full of flavor if a little messy. The two tacos each were more than enough for a meal but we splurged and also got a machete which was gorgeous to behold and also delicious. Let me put it this way. I turned many heads as I walked to our table. I even had people come up to our table and ask which restaurant provided us our meal and they went directly to Sureste to order their own. Besides being a wonderful chef, Alex is a wonderful person. We are excited to see him doing so well and look forward to the opening his own location.
