My sister, a friend, and I visited Cozy Thai Bistro a few days ago when exploring State College on foot. We had considered going to its sister restaurant, Galanga, but they closed a bit earlier, so we opted for Cozy Thai and were thrilled that we did.
My sister ordered Drunken Noodles, my friend had the Beef Pad Khing, and I had Pad See Iew. None of us are very familiar with the cuisine, so we also got an appetizer of spring rolls and a milk tea to share. All of our food was outstanding!
Flavors were very well balanced, and the meats, vegetables, and noodles were all cooked perfectly. Nothing was overpowering but everything was exceedingly flavorful. We all tasted each of the three dishes, and we all agreed that if this is the standard of their cooking, we'd return and confidently order any item at all from the menu next visit.
Prices are a bit steep in downtown State College, so this wasn't a cheap meal, but it wasn't terribly overpriced, and the portions were more than reasonable. My friend, always a big eater, ordered double meat in his entree, and we all agreed that his meal alone would have served my sister and I both. Ours were standard sized, and we both struggled to clear our plates. If we hadn't been walking about town, we'd likely have taken boxes of leftovers, but the food was simply too outstanding to waste. Service was good, and while it wasn't outstanding, there were also no problems or issues. The only small complaint we had was that my sister's drunken noodles were surprisingly non-spicy, despite being labeled with the telltale chili pepper, and they lacked any sign of the jalapeno listed in the description. A minor disappointment, but far from being enough to cancel out the five-star food overall.
I'm not normally so generous with a review, but this was some of the best food I've eaten in years, and I'm already anxiously awaiting our next chance to dine at the Cozy...
Read moreThis place was neither cozy nor Thai. Perhaps they have had better food and service in the past? When we arrived, everything was served in to-go containers wrapped up in a tied bag and tossed on our table even though we were dining in. The table next to us was dirty and had a pile of food scraps. My partner and I ordered the vegetarian Panang curry and Green curry and chose salad for our sides. The white rice was terribly made; part of it was mushy, and part of it was too dry. The curries were very watered down, and didn't even taste anything like curry paste. The Panang curry actually tasted like it was instant noodle soup that had had some watery peanut sauce added to it. The portions were very small for the price, and I couldn't even finish mine because it was so unappetizing. The salad was just a small portion of iceberg lettuce which you had to pour a simple, watery peanut sauce over. The ends of the green beans in the curry weren't even trimmed. We don't think we will ever go back, and we're very disappointed we chose to go and waste our money on that sorry...
Read moreGood food and cool atmosphere, it was our go to Thai food place. But this evening I called and placed a take out order, they did not mention on the phone that the entire street they’re located on and both surrounding streets are closed for arts fest. I’m not a SC native and would not have know that Allen was closed. I went to pick up my food and drove around for 20 minutes trying to find anything in a close atmosphere to park and grab my food. After 25 minutes I gave up. I’m 8 months pregnant and my only option was to park and walk 15+ minutes and pay for parking just to pick up my Thai food. I called and apologized that I didn’t realized the road was closed and I couldn’t get to their establishment. They yelled at me because the food was ready and told me I needed to come in and pay for it. When I explained again that I couldn’t physically get to their building the woman on the phone said “well then it will just sit here. Bye.” Very rude service for a situation that could have been avoided by them telling me that I wouldn’t be able to get to the...
