Sharkies is different from all of the other bars in downtown State College. It feels less like it caters to being a haunt of Penn Staters and feels more like it's just being it's own thing.
Sharkies is a two-level bar and bottle shop. They are cash only and I have never known them to charge cover. In recent years, their cocktail list and specials have changed. The new specialty cocktail comes with a little take-home Sharkies cup, which has completely changed the aesthetic of my home. I do wish they would go back to putting gummy sharks in the cocktail, however.
Sharkies is beautiful because their specials don't change with the days of the week, they have their consistent hours every day. Cash only and cover-free lets you know exactly what you're getting every time. The drinks are a good price for downtown. Billiards, darts, and TV's are available for entertainment, and I love that there isn't live music upstairs, so I can hear people talk.
The only reason Sharkies doesn't get five stars is that the bathroom is getting dingy. I wouldn't call it dirty, but I also wouldn't call it clean (which is not atypical for a downtown bar on a weekend). Other than that, I hope it...
Read moreWe go in there every Friday. Bartender got two of my friends wasted then told them they were to drunk to drive and if they did they would be barred for life. Well they did drive cause they don't live around there. So the next week we went in some short bearded guy that works there kicked them out saying a bunch of curse words to them. Maybe because they happen to be African Americans maybe not. But my friends were very respectful and left. Maybe the bartender could of offered food or not served them so much. Myself,I won't go back there again. Too bad sharkies because the next highrise that's going up is going to be full of people like us looking to play pool and relax on a Friday after work. I guess the little bearded man is responsible for loosing all this...
Read moreI gave food a 5/5 so it doesn't effect the review. They don't have kitchen food, they have little bags of chips here and there. Which is fair. This bar is.. different. Drinks are hit or miss depending on who makes them. There's an older Asian man that makes the best drinks. Sometimes they're really bad. Pretty chill atmosphere, but the downstairs isn't open. I think this would be beneficial for them as it gets busy at times. I enjoy coming here. It tends to be an older crowd rather than the college kids. Id recommend coming here 2-3 times before you decide if it's a...
