This review is tough for me. I love Waffle Shop. I came here a lot when my wife was in undergrad. However my experience here was mixed. We waited about 20 min which is normal for a Sunday on a parents weekend. Our server was amazing, staff were great, very attentive. However the food was less than extraordinary. Me and my wife had omelets. They were okay. What disappointed me was the pancakes. Just flat, hard, nothing to them. Toast was fine, but the honeys were just big chunks of potato and unseasoned. This is in stark contrast to just a few years ago where the food seemed much better. And the costs have gone up too. For the two of us, two drinks, omelets with pancakes and another side it was $32.08 pre tip. I remember it not costing nearly as much. I know things are more expensive now but this feels absurd for breakfast. But… with eggs being $6 a dozen I don’t think I can blame the restaurant.

Great place for breakfast or brunch while at State College, but expect to wait in line, particularly on Sundays. I had the French Delight which was French Toast with one scrambled egg and bacon. The French Toast was sweet and tasty. The bacon was delicious also, but admittedly, I would have liked it to be a bit more crispy. The orange juice I had was freshly squeezed, which was refreshing and paired nicely with my French Toast. Service was very friendly and helpful. They were a tad understaffed, but the staff worked super hard and were very professional. Highly recommend while visiting Penn State.

The English Muffin was delicious and the waitress did pretty well for being new! Other than that though not too much good to say. The only thing that came out hot was the English muffin. The eggs and redskins were cold and both subpar for taste, but if they came out hot they might’ve tasted better. My brother also happened to get a hair in his redskin potatoes which is the main reason they got a 2 star, without they would’ve gotten a 3 star. Hopefully my experience was a one time thing.

I hate to give a poor review but what was once a go to breakfast staple throughout my time at Penn State, is no longer. I have severe tree nut allergies and always make sure to note these allergies when giving my order and make alterations such as refraining from ordering pancakes or bakery items like English muffins so that I can be safely accommodated to avoid cross contamination and support local businesses in the area. However, I was very upset to find a walnut stuck in the cheese on my eggs at my last visit to the downtown location despite a note on the order slip of a severe tree nut allergy. When I brought this to the staff’s attention they simply remade my order for which I was still charged and paid for, despite not feeling comfortable to eat the remade dish.

I called and spoke to managerial staff, in which they were basically silent on the phone and upon further expressing my disappointment, they told me that they were sorry and that “they would try to work on it.” As someone with a severe life or death allergy, I think this is unacceptable because it can only take one instance and I urge anyone who dines there to make absolute certain that their allergies are taken seriously and that they feel comfortable. I urge the staff to take food allergies extremely seriously, as well—it only takes one act of negligence to send someone with severe allergies to the ER. I am lucky I noticed the walnut or the outcome of my day could have been...

We were in town with a few friends. My husband said we had to have breakfast here. This place is CASH ONLY, people!! They have an ATM inside of their restaurant. There was barely a wait since we arrived at 10:20am on a Saturday. When you wait, you have to form a line outside of the shop. The man who sat us was nice but seemed a little annoyed when we said we had a party of 5 (we were all there but one of our friends needed to go get cash when we read the cash only sign) so, when he sat us, she followed shortly (like 30 seconds) after. Since she wasn't there at that exact moment he was sitting us, he just seemed annoyed. He saw all of us when we got there, so, obviously we were all there. I would've given 5 stars but that was a little excessive. People aren't used to only paying in cash so, naturally, she had to go to an ATM (before we realized there was one inside). Anyways, service was great (Aimee was fantastic). I have food allergies and she was great with them! I got the French Delight (French toast, an egg, and bacon). My husband got steak and scrambled eggs with a side of avocado toast. Our friends got the California Eggs Benedict and mini platter. Everyone loved their food. Even the chocolate milk was delicious! We'll come back every time we're...

Came here as a group of 15 people for breakfast and when being seated our waiter was very passive aggressive telling us we are taking up too much space, even though we had 3 tables completely filled. Service was quick and food was alright for the price, but payment was awful. This is easily the worse payment experience I have had. First of all, they are still cash only in 2022 but we knew that already so that is not the issue. When they gave us the check, they put one check for all 3 tables down onto 1 table, and they refused to separate it into a check for each person. Then we had to figure out who needs to pay how much since the check was not detailed enough and the price did not seem right either. I thought this was because of included tip, but they added more to our total when we went up to pay. To put it into perspective, one group subtotal was around $65 but they were saying we needed to pay $105. The cashier was quite rude and not explaining well as to where the charges came from so we ended up just paying it and leaving. Personally, I would never come back here again just because of the hour long hassle...
