Tokyo Sushi & Hibachi — Restaurant in State College

Horrible experience. We pre-ordered our food for takeout, ordered the combo 3 sushi platter and a sushi for 1 platter, and a side of cheesecake. It was my friend and I going out to have lunch. We went to pick up and eat nearby. Order was finished on time, we walked in, got our food, and left. The odd thing is I didn't get any change- it was 41.50-something or other, and I gave them 42, so it's not a big deal whatsoever. My concern is that if I had handed them a 5 dollar bill for change, I wouldn't get it back. But anyway, we got our food, sat, and unpacked everything. It was packaged decently, save our cheesecake...which came upside down?? Which isn't a huge problem, but it was odd. The worst part of this was this very foul odor coming from the sushi specifically- the tuna rolls, I believe. It was STRONG. I could smell it through the bag as we sat down. We each braced ourselves..tried a piece from the sushi for 1 pack. My friend hated it, to say the least. But we tried some from the combo platter- which I had ordered salmon, salmon skin, and tuna. The salmon was..sub-par. Tasteless and a bit slimy. I have a strong feeling it was frozen prior to us ordering and the sushi being made. The tuna tasted like a diluted version of the foul odor we were smelling- I'm writing this about 14 hours after eating and so far neither of us are sick, but both of us had a strong feeling it..wasn't as fresh as sushi is supposed to be. After me eating three rolls, nibbling on a salmon skin (and deciding it wasn't worth my time), and my friend eating a single roll and trying the salmon roll and immediately spitting it up because it was slimy, we decided to be done with that and move onto the cheesecake. We had also gotten clear soup and some other soup- neither of which we really touched or trusted after the sushi experience. The cheesecake? Frozen. Completely. It came with two different types of cheesecake, too. One with crust like usual and..one without- baked. I...don't understand fully why we didn't get two of the same slices from the same cake?? Unless we were served a frozen piece from an older cake and given the next one they had. Again, just...everything had to have been frozen beforehand. Which is ok sometimes but..I don't think your entire menu should be put in bulk and frozen- sold days, weeks, or possibly months later. Are we ever going there again? Not on our lives. Never again. Ever. In summary; Ok service from what we got, HORRIBLE quality food. Don't come for sushi unless you want to waste money on food that...

was looking for a great place to take my GF for a great meal today, this place absolutely blew my mind and satisfied my tummy!

They always say you eat with your eyes first, then your mouth, this is what we ordered:

Katsu chicken: The plating was beautifully done and flavors on point! The gyoza was crispy and juicy and full of great flavor! the katsu chicken was just so tender and cooked perfect. The katsu sauce was the real star of the dish though, it was rich had the right tangy and sweet flavor and was mouthwatering. The miso soup was very flavorful and not too salty it was out of this world! The Katsu chicken, miso soup, California rolls, pot stickers and rice with orange slices is just incredible pick for just under $14.00

King Kong roll: is a salmon and cream cheese roll with green onion and other ingredients. Very Nice portions and was also plated beautifully. ingredients were fresh and married together nicely with a slight kick. Served up with sliced ginger and Wasabi

Pork Gyoza: ( 6 piece pork potsticker appetizer) these fried tasty treats are just an addiction 😄 I always get these whenever possible. Tokyo Sushi & Hibachi's fried potstickers are my new standard as they were juicy, with a perfect pan sear and had good flavor with every bite and were just insanely delicious! Came with a salty- sweet and delicious dipping sauce that brought it all into frame beautifully.

First off, I have never left a review so you can understand how upset I am. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I am sitting in the restaurant right now and i’ve probably been here over an hour (i am not exaggerating) and there is still no food on the table. So first of all it is not busy at all, there are 3 other tables of 4 or less people. I’m at a table with 4 other people and we ordered 2 bento boxes and 3 hibachi. It took our server about 20 minutes to even address us and ask what we would like to order and now like 45+ minutes (and i still do not have the food). Also, I get sometimes the kitchen is busy, which would be very strange considering there is 3 tables and I can cook faster than this, BUT our server should be coming over to our table, checking in and updating us, and filling up our empty waters. I’m so angry but I’m so hungry and keep thinking it’s only going to be 5 minutes because come on seriously. NEVER COME HERE. I don’t care how the food tastes anymore service is absolutely awful. Also, not cheap either for what I’m getting.

UPDATE: Oh my gosh I feel like this is just unbelievable because our food came and i’m eating it and a short curly black hair was in my rice 😭😭 Then I spoke to the manager and she just said sorry as if that...
