My sister goes to school at State College. She very rarely goes to The Shandygaff but it was one of the locations to stop at during a club sponsored bar crawl. When it was time for her to leave this location she got her hand bag off of the bar and went outside with her group. When she got outside she realized that the bar still had her debit/credit card. Upon realizing this, she turned around and told the guy at the door that she left her card at the bar. To her surprise, the guy at the door informed her that she would have to wait in the line to go back in and get her card. My sister, being a little less "forward" than I am, didn't like the fact that she had to wait in line but did it anyway. After 22 minutes of standing in line she finally gets to the door, where she sees the guy who told her to go to the back of the line. She tells the guy she needs to get her credit/debit card and, after checking her ID, he tells her that she would have to pay the cover charge to get back in. The standing in line for 22 minutes, falling behind from the rest of her group, and now being told that she has to pay a cover charge all just to get her OWN card back finally made her upset enough to stand her ground that she would not be paying a cover charge to get her own debit/credit card back. After going back and forth with the guy for about 4-5 minutes, they finally let her get her card without paying the cover. Finally she was out of there and didn't have to deal with the shady place again..that is until this morning when she found out that they charged her card $20.00 for 1 drink, which she was told at the bar would be $6.00 and later found the receipt that said it was $6.00. With all of that being said, I will be making a very...friendly...phone call to the establishment today. My sister has vowed to never return to the...

This was my first and LAST time at "The Shandygaff". Nothing like starting the night at the WRONG bar! My friends and I were intially ignored for 10-15 minutes. We eventually were "greeted" by Mitch. Mitch is apparently the manager. We attempted to order a drink and Mitch, with his "unforgettable service", decided to argue with us about what we were ordering.
The intital drink we ordered was pink/red with coconut rum in it. Mitch felt it was necessary to use foul language and assert that he knew it did not have coconut rum. He was extremely rude.
I must note, we (the 3 of us) were minorities and he was caucasian.
We expressed our dislike with his attitude and uncalled lack of respect; and he decided to use more foul language and then had the bouncer remove us from the establishment.
This place needs new management asap. Terrible service, terrible drinks and undesirable treatment. Not a place you want to visit to have a "good time".
This establishment does not uphold the Penn State-State College mission statement nor their culture.
Dear Mitch...the year is 2022; time to evolve...
Read moreI'm a Penn State Alum and two weeks ago I went to the "Gaff" with some friends when visiting for Arts Fest. The place has always been filthy but generally the people working there and the environment are friendly. Not this time. My friend, of age, whose ID scanned through without hitch, was grilled as to why their middle name is not spelled out on their license. It's a Chinese name and the bouncer decided that he needed to go above and beyond - create special clearance measures - because they responded "It's a Chinese name, you wouldn't be familiar". He proceeded to give her a hard time despite the valid ID, barring entry unless they submitted to his intrusion and spelled out their name. There was no interrogation of any other entrant. The bouncer's intent was unclear but it came off as bigoted; a condescending man using his position of authority to boss around a Chinese person. Don't know the bouncer's name but he smelled bad and has donned the same scruffy chin strap for years. You'll know him if you see him. He looks greasy and probably has a confederate flag waving from the back of his lifted...
