Service was better than anywhere else we have been since the pandemic. I think our waitress was Maria. Her service made it an excellent experience. She was fery friendly and attentive. No one ended to flag her down since she was always on top of everything. I have been to a lot of high quality out of state Reuben New York style Deli's, so my opinion on the food may be a little biased. The corned beef for me, was not at al lean and had to remove a lot of overly fatty pieces that were like cheering gum. Lol. Maybe the Pastrami is leaner, which is what i meant to order, but didn't. The bread seemed toasted & not grilled. Bit overall, it wasn't bad. The Fish & chips the kids ordered were the old school heavy battered style. Some may like that, but I prefer a lighter breading. Overall, it was decent for the price and the waitress more than made up for the food quality. They fo have the pink Greek dressing, it was just a little thin/runny. Food quality, I have had better Reubens with much leaner meat, but not sure if it was the direction this one was cut that created the problems with pieces that seemed to be all/mostly fat?!? Once those were removed, it was good, but I only had half a...
Read moreHad the king size Reuben and Onion rings. The onion rings were the worst of the two which taste like used old oil. You couldn’t taste the breading or onions at all, just oil. The Reuben also had no taste with exception to the over grilled rye bread. Sour Kraut would have given the sandwich taste but was scarce, very scarce. The corned beef wasn’t dry but must’ve been diluted in water or over boiled as the meat barely had a taste. Had much much better Reuben’s at New York Deli, Detroit Burger bar or Empire grill. Had better Reubens even at Coney Island which is a sad comparison. Tried this place but I won’t be returning .
Update: just read the reviews and found many complaints like mine with tasteless food, and horrible onion rings. Should have read reviews before going but since I’m always looking for a good Reuben I’ll stick with the mentioned places above as this place is 0 star...
Read moreHouse of Reuben is a local secret. Housed in an unassuming, converted Taco Bell, it looks like a typical small diner. But it's not the obligatory burger on the menu you go there for, even though it is quite good: it's the corned beef sandwiches. And they are amazing.
Don't ask how many calories they have or how many grams of fat. If you need to know, you're in the wrong restaurant. Instead, ask them which of the home made dressings they think you should have on your sandwich. Ask for the side of onion rings, which are perfect. And enjoy as the man behind the counter grills your sandwich, then stacks it high with delicious, perfectly prepared corned beef. There is a lunch crowd: something this good always attracts one. Go in at 2:30 in the afternoon and you'll have the place to yourself. Tip your waitress generously.
