Such an incredible experience...
Chef Jesus prepared a phenomenal meal for me. He began with a spicy salmon sushi bowl, which was fun, fresh, and satisfying.
Then, a sashimi and sushi platter rested before me. For the first time in my life, I thought I would not be able to finish everything. But my mantra is "no sushi left behind" and I planned on living up to that.
Each piece of fish was fresh and came with rich and distinct flavors. The texture, color, and tenderness of the fish truly impressed me.
I have eaten much sushi but this was something different. Something better than the norm.
For instance, I have not eaten eel for years because it is often dried out and "candied". Chef Jesus' eel is delicate with just a hint of sweetness. It was absolutely refreshing.
I also do not dine on tamagoyaki because of the excessive sweetness and it is often too dense to appreciate. Chef Jesus' tamago was another rich and compelling treat with the right amount of sweetness.
What blew my mind the most was that I often gulp down the tuna because it comes off as some dark and cold base food. Yugen's tuna has a great flavor and the texture was reminiscent of filet mignon.
The final amazing surprise was the fresh and oily mackerel. I cannot begin to tell you how stellar that was due to its flavor.
Chef Jesus cares about all elements of the sushi process to the point where Yugen makes their own soy sauce without the crushing salty flavor.
In addition, the green tea was perfect!
I cannot wait to return to Yugen. I have this feeling that Chef Jesus will continue to impress.
I only hope I will be able to get a seat once the masses hear about this phenomenal...
Read moreI decided to take my family here to enjoy a nice evening out for Valentine's Day. Upon arriving we were turned away by the hostess because we didn't make a reservation and there was a supposedly a 2 hour waiting time. Mind you, the place was empty with a few patrons at the bar. It seems ridiculous that a new establishment that opens in Stroudsburg PA with no parking would think it's name will have weight because of its establishment in NYC would sustain to be in business. The fact that you would turn away customers is not how you want to run a business. We never had the opportunity to try the food here and quite frankly I don't care to try it. This place has already placed a bad taste in my mouth. I will make sure to share this experience with everyone I know so they can make an informed decision to dine at many of the other restaurants in the area that know how to treat customers the minute they walk through their door. Since this place didn't care for my business I will make sure to spend my money which is well worth spending if the experience is good other than this...
Read moreI’m so excited to finally have a fantastic sushi bar in the Poconos. The special rolls are creative and well balanced, the quality of the fish and the knife skills of the chef are on par with some of the best sushi I’ve had in LA and San Francisco. The spot is cozy and cute and the service is also deserving of all 5 stars. I can’t wait to try more of the creative menu items but my favorite so far are the Libra, shiitake mushrooms in teriyaki sauce with avocado on crispy rice and the phoenix roll which is salmon, avocado, mango and this dreamy spicy mango sauce. Even the beverages are unique with a signature yuzu iced tea that is not to be missed. I’ve already been twice this week and I’ll be back, I want to try the other crispy rice dishes and I’m intrigued by the fried chicken cup! So blessed to finally have...
