Read moreWhilst I have enjoyed the coffee and atmosphere here for quite some while, I was taken aback by the passive aggressiveness of one of the staff members here. I have been coming to this location for weeks and have purchased a coffee and/or food almost every single day amounting to $100 in supporting the cafe. One not-busy Saturday afternoon, I had decided to not purchase a coffee and to use the space to get some note-taking done. Now, I understand that the space is preferred for people who have bought a drink or food, but I would hope that I would be given grace to use the space on the one occasion that I did not purchase anything - especially, since the space was not busy/not full of customers. The one staff member approached me with such a passive aggressive manner that felt very unwelcoming. She gave no grace whatsoever, despite seeing me there nearly every day over the course of the last few weeks (in which each day I purchased something). Whilst I am a “customer” to the establishment, her attitude and passive aggression stripped me from feeling like a “community member”. Instead of passively aggressively saying, “…this space is for PAYING customers only…”, she could have been kinder by saying something along the lines of, “Hi, how are you! Everything doing well? Looking to get a drink or food? We love to have you here and would appreciate you supporting the space by purchasing something”. I ask for this one staff member to do better and not see people only as “customers”, rather “community members”. It truly sets the tone. And while I love the other staff members and food and beverages at this cafe, I am not very happy with the negative approach of one of the staff members. As someone who has experienced not feeling welcomed in certain places, she had struck a chord within me by her comment. I will update my rating with time. For now,...
This place made my group feel very unwelcome. I was speaking with the owner BETSY over a month in advance telling her I would bring a party of 14 people for a birthday party. We arrive at 10:15 AM to set up the birthday table, and everyone arrived by 11AM. We did not recieve any menus or any waitress to take our order, but we ordered coffee in the front of the cafe. Everything was fine until Betsy told us “you are our biggest table here and you still haven’t spent a dollar”. Mind you, this was at about 10:45, and we did order coffee but were waiting for the birthday girl to arrive to her surprise birthday.
We finished and left everything clean on the table by 12pm, not even over an hour because our guests truly felt unwelcome and rushed.
The cafe wasn’t busy, so I wasn’t sure why she was so bothered by us, knowing I told her over a month ago that we would be coming. We were respectful, we weren’t rowdy .. we didn’t want to be more of an inconvenience than we already felt from her. We were sitting outside in the patio and cold, nobody else was outside either just our party.
She also said we weren’t allowed to have the birthday cake we brought, when she never told me this in the emails at all. It was really unprofessional, the baristas and servers are great but THE OWNER is extremely disrespectful and regret bringing all of my friends to a cafe whose owner is so rude to its customers. Especially it being a big party, you would think we would be given some type of attention. Overall, dissatisfied by everything, the food and the respect.
Lastly, she emailed me after I spoke to her respectfully telling me “Good Luck with life”. To top it off, the reason we wanted to go there was because it was a special place for the birthday girl, it’s a shame none of us will ever...
Read moreI have lived in the Poconos area my whole life. I have never heard of this place before. My girl friend and I went into the town of East Stroudsburg to go grocery shopping. Unfortunately we were famished and we weren’t sure if we wanted breakfast or lunch. She found Duet Cafe and it had excellent reviews. We drove there with our little 8 month year old.
Arriving at the establishment, I identified that this place had spunk and culture because there was an LGBTQ+ flag out front. Entering the cafe, I ordered a Tumeric and Habiscus iced tea with a Starwberry, Arugula and Creamy Goat Cheese Salad. My girlfriend ordered there Ham,Cheese, with Sharp Provolone Sandwich. The tea I ordered was unsweetened to my liking very flavorful and refreshing. The salad was fresh, the goat cheese was beautifully sour and tang, and the strawberries had a blast of flavor with each bite. Her sandwich was absolutely delicious. The ham wasn’t to high in salt but very well cured, the cheese was amazing, the sauce that was on there was absolutely tantalizing.
It did take a while for our food to arrive; However the esthetic atmosphere and feel of a very trendy cafe made up for the time we waited for our food. Adding to the fact was that every single person there was well mannered, dressed with class, and was very nice to us. The decoration on the back patio is beautiful and I suggest this to any group of travelers coming up from the city or wherever to come and support this business. I will be coming back to this restaurant because this place packs a punch of flavor and a diverse menu of cuisines. I can’t wait to continue to see this place thrive! 5 Stars ⭐️. Sincerely thank you for bringing flavor back to the small town of East...
