HORRIBLE service, subpar food!!. We just left there, after waiting for the bartender to stop shaking dice with the locals,we got our drinks. After looking at the menu and placing it down,we waited until another bartender came out of the back and asked if we would like to order. Apparently only locals demand immediate attention. We ordered an appetizer of cheese curds (the only good food we received) I got the "steak" and "stuffed shrimp" and my wife got the cod sandwich. Someone came out of the kitchen and threw our curds down then walked away. Ok...we didn't want ketchup or anything anyway. Then my salad came, and I waited for 3 more mins to ask for a fork since they don't come with it. Our meals came In a timely manner. My wife started eating her sandwich while I waited for another 3 mins to ask for a knife. They don't serve those with steak btw. My "6oz sirloin" was a pounded flat overcooked peice of meat. They cut the middle to check for doneness, but cut through the whole thing so it dried out. The "stuffed" shrimp were as good as any frozen breaded shrimp I've seen in the frozen section at Walmart. There was NOTHING stuffed in them. No flavor,no texture...horrible. My wife's cod sandwich came with nothing....JUST the sandwich. The tarter was lime green, cod was overbreaded, greasy, and fishy. I ate 1 shrimp and a bite of the steak. We were very apparently not happy...nobody asked us how anything was,nor offered to correct it when we asked for the bill. Then waited another 5 mins for a third person to take our card after I held it out with my bill to pay. Will never go back here, nor do I recommend it to anyone not from here. Apparently you have to know the bartenders by name to garnish any attention. All these good reviews must be from locals. Thank you greystone for nothing but a $40 bill. Btw,this is our 2nd visit, first time the food was ok,the bartender ignored us then also. For a tourist driven area you would think they appreciate the business. Would rate zero...
Read moreGreystone Castle is a basic bar, except for the numerous taxidermy mounts covering the walls. The food, however, is not basic at all. Not only is the food very good, the prices are quite low!
At our table, we had two prime rib sandwiches and a perch sandwich. The prime rib sandwiches each contained 14-16 ounces, nearly a pound of meat, which was perfectly cooked. The bonus was that it was not simply cut from the roast, but it was browned on either griddle or a grill. Doing so gave a richer, steak-like flavor. It was similar to a sous vide steak, in that that it was cooked to the appropriate temperature edge to edge. The only "negative" is that the sandwich is so thick, it is hard to eat. We ate it as an open-faced sandwich and used the top piece of bread as dip bread in the jus that came with the sandwich.
While I didn't taste it, I was told that the perch sandwich was excellent, containing 6 fillets of nicely cooked fried perch.
The menu is also varied, with such offerings as elk and wild boar burgers.
My only complaint about the menu is that they should, with the great food selection, have a better wine selection. My wife got a glass of merlot with the prime rib sandwich, and it was a mini bottle of a very basic wine. Meat of that quality deserves better wine as an accompaniment.
The service was slow, but not unbearably so. The one server was working very hard and was obviously overworked, having to tend to every table in the place (at least 20, and they were all full). She did her best!
All in all, it was a very nice lunch. I will...
Read moreI travel for a living. For the past 20+ years I have visited many restaurants and bars worldwide. Tonight, my family and I walked into Greystone Castle. They were busy. That’s fine, we can wait. The hostess eventually noticed us and was clearly aggravated. She just said “it’s gonna be a wait”, no eye contact, and with attitude. A few minutes later, while trying to stand out of the way of people walking in and out, the same hostess came up behind us and again with attitude said, “I NEED TO GET IN THERE”, referring to the hostess stand that we were close to. A little later she said “ You three want to take that booth?” She was speaking in our direction and there were three of us, so naturally I thought she meant us. There were three other people standing nearby with drinks, I had thought they were hanging out drinking. The hostess quickly snapped at us as we started to make movement towards the booth, “I MEANT THEM, THEY’VE BEEN WAITING A LOT LONGER THAN YOU”, then she laughed as though we were so absurd for thinking even for a moment that she had meant us. I had not spoken a single word the entire time we were there. Obviously we left immediately after being treated so poorly. We were really putting her out just by walking in there, that was clear. Never been treated with this level of disrespect ever, at any other restaurant I’ve been to in the world. A wait would have been fine, the...
