Some friends and I had a class at Popelka as a birthday treat. Jeremy (the instructor) was wonderful at adapting to three very different experience (and confidence) levels. He was great at explaining and keeping things interesting while unobtrusively assisting when help was needed. In terms of price, our session was about the same as I paid for a similar glass-blowing event elsewhere. The big difference is that we were far more involved in every step of the process and we got to design our own pieces - the type (cup, vase, ornament, paperweight, etc.), the overall shape (short/tall/wide/flared) and the colors. On a mother-daughter trip to Door County we decided to splurge and take the private class at Popelka Trenchard. It was an AMAZING experience. I fully expected to come away with a blob of glass to remember my time, but both my mom and I created two beautiful pieces (a paper weight, drinking glass and two vases) that we're proud to display. Read moreI first saw the glass vases at Edgewood Orchard Gallery at Fish Creek. As we explored more art galleries around Door County, we found out this artist has a studio in Sturgeon Bay. We ventured there to see if we can meet the artist. Unfortunately, they were at another event. Nonetheless, we had a nice chat with the studio manager.
