We were in the area looking for something low cost to do one day. This museum operates on the suggested donation of $5 per adult. You will get you five dollars and then some.

It has lots of interactive exhibits including a historical fire engine, piano, jail cell (my son enjoyed it until I locked him in and walked away), as well as an old fashioned phone booth the kids all seemed to love as it has a line waiting to give it a try.

The staff member on duty was friendly willing to explain things, and even gave us demos of things that you would not get to see without him taking the time to show you.

My only complaint is that with the cost being low it did seem to have a lot of disrespectful people that treated the place more like a zoo. They just let their kids run and terrorize the place. Actually even being rude at times to those that wanted to enjoy the treasures found at this location. Not really the fault of the museum as they don't want to turn anyone away but at some point they may need to ask people to leave that are being distrustful and not following the rules.

Overall it was a good example of what a small town museum can and should be....

When I worked as a summer camp counselor (and when I was a kid myself), this was always a favorite. There’s a beautiful forest depiction with taxidermy when you first walk in that shows wildlife in all of the seasons in Door County. But beyond that, there’s a little Main Street downstairs with a phone booth and postal counter, and exhibits upstairs that include fishing and cherry picking. I think everyone’s favorite is probably the fire trucks and jail cell though. Thank you for always being so welcoming and helping so many people learn about beautiful...

This is a fantastic place to visit and you can't beat the price. You will be encouraged to donate and once you see what's here you should find its worth it. A very extensive collection in a small space. Exhibits range from natural habit, to historical events, 1800s era artifacts (and some older). You could easily see everything quickly in 30 minutes if you don't read many if the descriptions. We took our time and spent around an hour with no kids along, and I feel like I could easily go back again and get...

Really awesome history museum. I especially loved the old fire trucks and pumpers. Also enjoyed the antique hearse and learned how they used to put skis on it for the winter months. Right inside the front door is fantastic painted mural with several taxidermy birds and animals on display. The display was created by local artist Mike Orthober. It's a huge museum and I only made it through about half of it, so I will need to return and finish the tour. Docents are amazing are friendly, so stop by and have a great time.

Very impressed with DoCo History Museum. The initial display is VERY impressive and took years to build. Then there’s two other large floors, a few hallways, and the historical fire engine hall. Only planned on popping in and out, but between the size and intro by the lovely curator we were there 30-45 mins and could’ve spent much longer. So don’t plan it being just a quick visit. Overall though, 8.5 out of 10 and would definitely recommend.

I recently visited the Door County Historical Museum at 18 N 4th Ave, in Sturgeon Bay, WI. I really enjoyed my time at this self guided no charge museum. The museum contained many displays from the history of the area. The museum also has a large amount of fire engines and fire fighting equipment gathered over the years. I had a nice discussion with the docent on Chief Oshkosh. Go check it out.
