We had relatives visit us from New York City and figured the best choice for dinner on their first night here was pizza. We immediately thought of Bella Napoli. Even though they are a small mom and pop pizzeria they make the tastiest pizza in Virginia. That night with my family visiting they surpassed anything we previously ordered. We ordered two grande combo pizzas, two sicilians and a tray of rice balls. The grande pizza really is grande with long and delicious slices of the sweetest pizza dough topped with delicious pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions and peppers. Our guests were taken back by the size of the pizza and were then treated to some of the most delicious pizza they've had in sometime (and we are talking about New Yorkers here.) We've always loved Bella Napoli's Sicilian pizza because even though Sicilian pizza crust is thicker than regular pizza their Sicilian pie crust does not overpower the sweet sauce and delicious mozzarella that sit atop this pizza. Their rice balls are a miniature version of Sicilian rice balls stuffed with rice and meat in the center. Everything we had that night was incredibly delicious and it pleased a family of tough customers. Thank you Carmella...
Read moreI put a two because I was expecting a bit more. The comments and the rating is what brought me here, but was somewhat disappointed.
So the good thing or the "pros" in this joint is that the inside of the place is actually pretty nice, and people seems to be friendly and polite. (also enjoyed the appetizer)
However, the food is just not quite there. I won't say that i'm an expert in pizza but I know a cheaply made one when i eat them. The tomato sauce is most likely canned, the almost non-existent Mozilla was "meh" and the preservatives in the breads tasted yum yum yummy. In all joking aside, the margarita pizza seemed to only appeal to the eye and not so much to the stomach, and if you want those kind of pizzas then go to papa jones they're cheaper and a bit more filling. If you want a real Italian pizza i know of a joint called "Pizza Box" its in portsmouth but for about the same price they'll show you what real pizza's taste like.
I almost gave it a three because of the these good points, but at the same time it does not feel like they deserve such high praises... hopefully competition will make this place better in the future, its not a bad place, just could...
Read moreLasagna OK; Margherita Pizza 2 thumbs down. This was the second time I've visited this restaurant - a coworker recommended it. The Chicken Parm & Lasagna was good on the 1st visit. On my 2nd visit I decided to try the pizza and get the lasagna again. I was very very very disappointed with the pizza. After eating the margherita pizza from Paisano's in Alexandria VA, this pizza was a TOTAL disappointment; it was dry and was like eating bread with a thin layer of sauce and chunks of cheese, used very sparingly. I couldn't eat a whole slice - thank goodness I got the small for $10. Next time I'll eat the DiGiorno's frozen pizza in my freezer or go to Domino's or another restaurant. Also, why would they serve "breaded" buffalo wings as the only option...if a duck shouldn't eat a lot of bread because it fills them up and does not provide a lot of nutrients, why should this restaurant feed us more bread and little ingredients. Needless to say, I will no longer support this restaurant. I hope they acknowledge the negative reviews and make some changes to sustain them into the future. I gave 3 stars because the lasagna and Chicken...
