My wife and I are from Texas and were visiting family in Suffolk and just came from the cemetery where my grandparents are buried at. We were looking for a place to eat. From the pictures that we saw of this place we agreed to go and try it. We ordered the burger with coleslaw, the liver and onions with collard greens and a shrimp and fry basket. The Wait Staff was awesome and had wonderful personalities. Lucky for us we were the only people sitting down since we arrived just after 2:00 PM. We were each given a piece of chocolate cake as well. The two Chefs most definitely know how to make liver and onions and collard greens. My wife had tried greens at various restaurants in Texas and just never liked them. She really liked the greens here and the chocolate cake as well. I told the Manager I presume " Kudos to the Chefs". I recommend that if anyone wants some Southern style food along with some true Southern hospitality to eat here. You won't be disappointed at all. We parked in the Public parking lot behind the restaurant. There is wheelchair accessibility here. The Manager informed us that some time before Thanksgiving they're cook for pickup and have calls from several towns in Virginia and North Carolina as well. I have no doubt at...
Read moreI was staying in Downtown Suffolk overnight with my best friend for a wedding and we decided to pop into Holland's for a quick brunch before heading home. Walking in we were really digging the rustic, yet modern décor.
After looking over the menu I decided on ordering "The Hangover Burger" topped with country ham, bacon, fried egg, jalepeƱo, chili, and pimento cheese. It was so good. Admittedly, I would've preferred the beef patty to have a little more seasoning; however, the flavor profile of the chili mixed with the pimento cheese on top of the burger was FIRE and gave it plenty of flavor. I was also a big fan of the battered fries that came on the side; furthermore, I loved the fact that they serve their sides of ranch (and I assume other sauces) in metal 1/4 measuring cups and that soft drinks come in mason jars. Little cutesy touches like that always make dining out that much more enjoyable.
Our waitress Amanda was very nice and accommodating and checked on us regularly throughout our meal with a positive attitude. Overall, Holland's serves up delicious food with a homey feel and my friend and I had quite a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could give a zero i would. We went there a little before 11. After about 5 min the young waitress comes over to the table and gives us 2 menus. No greeting whatsoever. Did not ask for our drink order. That was the last we saw of her. Owner was walking around, still not greeted. Did I mention we were the ONLY customers in the place? After being ignored and 15 min in, we decided if no one came in 5 min we were leaving. Well we left. Mind you I am in a wheelchair, and as we were leaving, very obvious both the owner and the waitress continued to ignore us. Funny thing is on the way out 2 ladies were going in and guess what they were immediately acknowledged!! I don't like to play the race card but.... I had enjoyed them in the past and was excited about going back after so long. Needless to say I will not be back. I would prefer to patron businesses that...
