I made reservations for 3 for Valentines day Brunch @ 11. We arrived at 10:50 and saw that the line was out the door. We understood that they would be busy, however we didn't expect such horrible treatment. Upon arriving, We checked in with the hostess and were told to have a seat. We witnessed as time after time, numerous people came in right after us and were seated immediately with no wait. I assumed maybe they were VIP so I waited patiently. After 35 minutes of waiting, I approached the hostess area and spoke to Johan (one of the managers) whom I had no idea was management at the time. I asked if he could please let me know how much longer our wait would be since we had been waiting for 35mins and our reservation was for 11. He proceeded to tell me they were very busy. I explained to Johan that I totally understand that it was Valentines day and they were busy, but I was just asking for an estimated time of wait before we'd be seated. He never gave me a time. Therefore I informed Johan that I had witnessed numerous people come in after us and were seated with no issue. I asked why? He said those people are being seated in the patio. I then asked Johan, "Why were we not asked if we would like patio seating?" He then rolled his eyes, and said, "let me go check on something", and walked away. At this point I was floored as to the attitude I was being given just for asking how long our wait would be. After approximately 10 minutes Johan returned to the front area and had the hostess seat us. Our drink orders were then taken by the waiter. When our waiter came back with our drinks, I informed him that this was our first visit to Churrascos and we were unfamiliar with how the brunch buffet worked. The waiter then replied, "Just grab a plate and get in one of the lines" Our waiter also seemed very bothered or just not happy. At this point, myself and my two companions decided to get in the crepe line. While standing in the crepe line, we noticed that our waiter had the busboy clear our table for another party. At this point I was furious! We had not even had the opportunity to eat before our table was cleared. I flagged down the waiter and asked him why our table was cleared. He then told us, "Well I thought ya left".. Really?!!! I proceeded to ask him to bring our drinks and silverware. He again gave us attitude. At this point I'd had enough. I asked for my check and was heading to the front register to pay when the waiter shouted "Ma'am where are you going?" as he followed close behind me. I turned around and told him, "I'm going to the front to pay and to talk to a manager". He said "No you pay me" He then snatched the ticket and debit card from my hand and ran over to the register by the bar and processed to run the card through. I stood there in disbelief as to what had just happen. Not only was our table cleared but this waiter just completely ignored what I had just said about wanting to speak with management. I then approached the two gentleman standing directly in front of me. One of which happen to be Johan (manager) and the other Rigo Romero (manager). I informed both manager's of the events that unfolded from beginning to end. Rigo Romero was very apologetic about the entire visit. However Johan didn't seem concerned about our treatment at all. At this point the waiter returned with my receipt. Rigo Romero then took the ticket and stated they would void the transaction at the end of the night. I informed Rigo that I am one to never complain, even when I've gotten bad service. But the way they treated us at Churrascos was totally uncalled for. Rigo apologized for the horrible service and requested that we return and give Churrascos another try. I highly doubt I will return! Also my debit card was charged the $132.99 despite being promised that it would be voided. Now had we had the opportunity to eat our meal; payment wouldn't have been an issue.
This type of treatment is degrading, unacceptable, and flat out ridiculous and needs to be addressed...
Read moreA Romantic Darling with a Slight Menu Misfire. I’ve always had a soft spot for Churrascos Sugar Land. There’s something about the deep red glow, the moody lighting, and that Latin-meets-modern aesthetic that makes the whole place feel like it’s whispering poetry while sipping red wine. It’s romantic without trying too hard — one of those spots I actually recommend to people when they want to impress.
So of course, I came back during Houston Restaurant Weeks to show some love. I ordered the beef tips from their special menu, and the moment it landed on the table, I blinked twice. I’m Chinese — and let me tell you, this dish tasted oddly like something off a neighborhood wok menu. The flavor was familiar… almost too familiar. Pair it with plain white rice and suddenly I’m back in Chinatown, not Sugar Land. 🍚 A little funny, a little nostalgic, but mostly? Just way too salty for my taste.
We were planning to try another HRW entrée, but our server casually mentioned their pork chop lunch special was only $22 and came with a house salad — basically a better deal than the $25 HRW plate. No brainer. We went half-and-half.
Now, about that pork chop — it looked promising, grilled nicely with a bit of char… but the moment the knife went in, I knew. A bit too dry. Not terrible, but it didn’t exactly scream “signature dish.” The salad was standard. You know the type.
Here’s the one thing that really irked me: I was mid-conversation with a client. I explicitly told our server I’d flag her down if we needed anything. But she still came over — twice — interrupting the flow of our meeting. I get that she was trying to be helpful, and I do appreciate attentiveness. But there’s a difference between caring and hovering. That line got blurred.
Verdict:
💡 Still love the vibe 💡 Still a go-to for atmosphere 😬 But this visit? Kind of a “first date that didn’t text back” energy.
Might be time to give it a little break — or maybe just come back for cocktails and ambiance, not lunch deals and awkward interruptions.

Read moreDISCLAIMER I am a very distant family member of the Cordua family, who opened Churrascos. I feel it's necessary to clarify this as I won't be accused of bias when recounting my experience from Easter Sunday 2025. That's why I waited over two weeks to share my thoughts.
HEARTBREAK “When your memories clash with reality.”
Churrascos was once a culinary gem. In the 1990s, we dined there at least twice a month and maintained this tradition across all their establishments: Amazon Grill, Americas, and Churrascos. However, the original Chef lost the restaurant to their new partners, resulting in the closure of some locations, and with that change came a decline in food quality. While we continued our visits, it was clear that the food was no longer what it used to be. We tried to reserve judgment, as it wasn't awful—just vastly different. During COVID-19, they offered a family meal for four to go at a reasonable price. Although it wasn't the Churrascos we remembered, the puntas were still flavorful.
Easter Sunday seemed like the perfect opportunity to return in person and rekindle the joy of the delicious brunch buffets we once relished.
THE HEARTBREAK The buffet layout was poorly designed, forcing diners to endure long lines to access different sections. The chimichurri was bland, completely lacking the signature garlic kick we all anticipate. The ceviche was utterly tasteless, devoid of onions and peppers, and the lime juice was barely detectable. The dessert station offered the usual Tres Leches but had an off-putting flavor. And the crepe station? Disappointing—just one additional sauce option, like caramel, would have sufficed instead of solely Nutella. Overall, food quality was simply unacceptable, and the selections were replenished at a snail's pace. To make matters worse, cold items were not kept at a proper temperature.
You might think that a disappointing buffet experience couldn't possibly get worse, but Churrascos somehow managed to add insult to injury.
I understand that gratuity is typically included for parties of six or more. I have worked as a waitress. Before handing over our credit card, we checked the receipt (you don't want to double tip), and gratuity was not included. To our surprise, Churrascos seemed to be extremely nice to their customers. However, it quickly became clear how mistaken I was.
The waiter arrived with the card machine, presenting options for tipping or allowing us to enter our own amount. (Remember, Easter Sunday is a brunch buffet, not a traditional full-service restaurant.) I was satisfied with my water and tea refills and the waiter's effort in clearing dirty dishes, so I opted for a 15% tip. Moments later, the waiter returned with the machine, stating, “Parties of six or more are required to add an 18% gratuity.” I was taken aback and embarrassed. I paid the extra tip but immediately sought out management to voice my concerns regarding our experience. Unfortunately, the only response I received was a polite acknowledgment of my feedback—no apology or further acknowledgment of the disappointing service.
It is disheartening to witness how the new owners have diminished what was once an exceptional restaurant. I sincerely hope they take this feedback seriously and implement the necessary changes. The Churrascos we adored is no longer existing, and that's a...
