This will have been my 3rd attempt at this Dennys. I waited for a couple to check out and pay for their meal for about 5 minutes and then the front lady then just walked away not even acknowledging my presence. I walked further into the restaurant up to where they grab their menus. Was told by a waitress to grab my own menu and silverware and I can sit in a booth. I proceeded to do so. I then waited 20 minutes without a single waitress coming up and asking me if I have been served yet or if I was ready to get a drink or order my meal. I watched the main 2 waitresses keep going back and forth to a booth only 2 down from me. I finally got up and went to their bar area to see if they were busy. 3 of the ladies were sitting at the bar talking and laughing and the front lady was getting another customers order at the bar. I then proceeded to asked for the manager. I could not believe my eyes. The manager was the one sitting at the bar talking to them. I explained my situation and the waitress that told me to get my own menu and booth said I was supposed to sit at a certain booth and that they just didn't see me. No apology. I told them that it's kind of hard to miss me since there was another customer just a booth down from me. The front lady made an expression of wow, like she didn't care for my comeback to their excuse. She then asked if I wanted anything, I was finally fed up and proceeded to leave without anything. Whoever is in charge of this Dennys really needs to make sure their management is actually doing their job and supervising the floor and their workers. If there are cameras in there I will be calling corporate about this situation. Very disappointing. The last 2 times were not as bad which were about 2 years ago. Service was good but the food was cold and unseasoned.
Update : Gave it one last chance today. I had to wait a little under a minute to get a table. My table had to be wiped since it was sticky. Ordered my meal and drinks at once. Drinks were kept up with me as I drank. Meal took a little longer to get. The burger was changed to a different type of burger but I was given what I asked for to add and wasn't charged for it. Food was hot and very well seasoned. I definitely enjoyed my meal this time and hope they continue the good work...
Read moreLunchtime Review: Great service, but not all the food was good. I ordered lunch online for me and my partner. My partner ordered the Fried Fish Platter with Fries, Broccoli and a Garden Salad with Ranch Dressing. I ordered the Smokehouse Melt with Hash Browns and Cheese. I picked up the order right on time and it was packaged nicely, with utensils and lots condiments, even tartar sauce for the fish. My partner enjoyed the fish. The fries and broccoli were what he expected. The salad was quite large, so we split it. The salad was fresh and delicious, and we had plenty of dressing for it. I really enjoyed the salad, but I didn't like anything I ordered. The Smokehouse Melt had little chunks of brisket on the sandwich that were totally burnt, dry and stringy. I couldn't even eat it as a sandwich because everything just kept falling out of the bread. The bacon on the sandwich, which the menu described as "crisp" was not crisp at all. It was stretchy and rubbery. I don't think the hash browns were fully dehydrated before cooking, because they were full of hard pieces and were very dry. My partner enjoyed his meal, but I only enjoyed half the salad he ordered.
Dinnertime Review: I was stuck in Sullivan all day and, long story short, I gave this Denny's another chance at dinnertime. I placed another order online for my partner and I. My partner stuck with the same order as earlier, the Fried Fish Platter with Fries, Broccoli and a Side Garden Salad. I went for something completely different and ordered the delicious sounding Double Berry Banana Pancake Slam. I ordered it with Fries, Ham and Scrambled Eggs with Cheese. Normally, I would have ordered hash browns with a breakfast order, but I didn't like the hash browns I got earlier, so I ordered fries instead. My order again was ready right on time. This time ... there was no tartar sauce for the fish. There was not one single slice of banana on my Double Berry Banana Pancakes either, only strawberries on top and what looked like blueberries in the pancakes. The menu shows the pancakes covered in banana slices and strawberries. There was also NO butter or syrup provided for the pancakes. The Ham, Scrambled Eggs and...
Read moreThe food here was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. I had the Salmon Salad, and my wife had the Bourbon Chicken Skillet. The salmon filet on my salad was huge, and the only letdown was that this Denny's didn't stock the balsamic vinegarette that their online nutrition guide said they had. The salad was basically a cobb salad with salmon. It was very good!
My wife's meal looked scrumptious, and I'll probably try it myself next time. It featured two glazed chicken breasts in a bed of broccoli and potato pieces, all served in a cast iron skillet. She was stuffed when she finished it. We'll definitely be going back again!
I'm knocking the atmosphere down to three stars however, for two reasons. One is the place was freezing. I had to go back out to the car to get a sweater, and my wife had to keep her coat on the entire time we were there. It was definitely uncomfortable. The second reason was that the place was too antiseptic appearing for me, and my wife referred to it as just dreary. There just was no "atmosphere" there. This particular Denny's is actually part of a large truck stop though, so I guess some of this is maybe to be expected.
We came again a week later, and the temperature of the place was much more reasonable. I had the Fried Fish Platter. The fish had too much breading on it, and it was overcooked. My wife had their Smokehouse Skillet, which she said was very good. It was basically a Mac and Cheese dish with very tender Smoked Brisket chunks and Onion Rings. It looked great, and another one I'll need to try. My sides were steamed broccoli and seasonal fruit. They were very generous with the fruit portion. We'll...
