Very disappointed & very poor food quality, poor service and most importantly fraudulent billing. Make sure you always ask for receipt and check your bill. My experience today is as below. Single person ordered (F2050) Sambar vada dipped, Kara ghee dosa and one coffee. Charged 29.17 including 3$ tip i added. When asked for receipt was told will be given later. Both order of dosa and vada brought to table same time. when i requested one item at a time i was told this instruction have to be given at time of order, anyways vada was taken back but interestingly same vada was brought back once i finished dosa.. by then the vada had gone soggy but they just kept on table and left. When i asked for receipt i was told there was mistakenly 2 coffees charged to refund is issued and receipt was given. Receipt shows sub total 22.91, default 1.92 (don't know what this is) total 22.91 (tip not included) separate line tip 3$ and refund 3.26$.. who in the world makes receipts like this? if i raise a claim i will get paid 22.91 which is clearly called out as total bill. BTW the refund 3.26 does not show up in my card transaction yet but 29.17 deduction does. After all these they very happy kept the tip i paid. So be careful and ensure you check receipt before you leave the place. Looks to me like they are taking advantage of crowd to charge extra. lastly took coffee at counter for togo and they said we dont have coffee cup sleeve .. what an irony, you serve hot coffee but dont have necessary sleeves? Had to use a tissue paper to hold coffee cup.
One additional observation, they dont pay any attention who they make seat where, One old lady with very young kid was seating right next to door and fortunately i saw that the kids hand was dangerously close to door and had potential of his fingers getting hurt. I had to call one of the staff and ask him to make the lady aware, which the staff did but how careless are the other staff who to me where only paying attention to maximising people eating. Very poor experience, not about money but definitely not going back to...
Read moreDear Desi Sisters and Brothers,
I am not a resident in the Bay Area. I travel here for business. I come from Bangalore to here for business. Obviously, software. I have spent over an year here spread over several years and hence I have tried many Desi restaurants. Including the Sangeethas that shut down post Covid. By far Komala Vilas is the best because of their consistency, taste, quality and quantity.
Their service can be slightly better. They seem very busy to not have a smile most of the times but the food has the smile, so I can ignore them not smiling. I went to another desi South Indian restaurant (and don't want to shame them here) that was super crowded and I was expecting them to be better than Komala Vilas but how on Earth could they get a coconut chutney wrong and call themselves South Indian?
Komala Vilas has their Sambar, Chutney, Idly, Vada, Dosa and Meals in the right spot for our taste buds. Coffee could be more stronger. Chai was perfect. My wife would love it too.
Thanks Komala Vilas for making me not miss the SLV , SN Refreshments, Taaza Thindi and many Upahara and Sagaras of Bangalore.
God continue to bless you all to do well and consistent. Have a good time folks. Thanks,
Pakka...
Read moreKomala Vilas was the first place I entered after a hunger pang of over one day. So you can understand when I say that I got really excited about their food a month ago.
After having visited there consistently, once every week for over a month, I can safely say that Komala Vilas has brought home food to the table in the Bay Area.
They have rice, sambaar, rasam, dry vegetable curry, a kootu (lentil + vegetable), papad, pickle, butter milk (no curd / yogurt), payasam (dessert) and an optional tava roti / chapati (for a $1 extra). All this for 11$ (including tax) you get to eat all of the above - UNLIMITED.
The food does get boring after a while (which is why I give their food a 1/3) - the menu repeats every week.
The Decor is fair - nothing fancy. Chairs and tables. Service is great! The servers are patient and more than happy to serve you - except on the weekends when it is really busy.
After a good game on Saturday / Sunday, there is no better place to be than Komala Vilas. All in all, a good place to be at when you have a strong craving for South...
