I’ve visited Hong Ban jang three times since it reopened, and I was very satisfied with the prices and the noticeable improvement in taste compared to before. In fact, I dined there just the day before the incident and had a great experience.
On the day of the incident, we went with our child and ordered Jajangmyeon, Jjamppong, and mini Tangsooyook. Since my child doesn’t like the crunchy texture of the vegetables in Gan Jajang, we specifically ordered regular Jajangmyeon. After serving the dishes, I cut the noodles for my child, and shortly after, the server came over and asked, “How is the Jajangmyeon?” We hadn’t tried it yet, but since my child was eating it, we just replied, “It’s fine.”
However, I found it strange that the server asked specifically about the Jajangmyeon, so I decided to taste it myself—and immediately realized something was wrong. The Jajangmyeon had a very burnt flavor and was not edible.
We called the server back and told her, “The Jajangmyeon tastes burnt and is not good.” Her response disappointed me even more. She said, as if she already knew, “Oh, right? It tastes off, doesn’t it? I’ll make a new one for you.” This really upset me.
If the server noticed something was wrong with the food’s smell before serving it, she could have addressed it with the kitchen and ensured we were served properly prepared food. Instead, she knowingly served us food she likely knew was burnt, seemingly hoping we wouldn’t complain.
She brought us a replacement dish, but unfortunately, it was also poorly made—the black bean paste was still burnt, and the taste was completely off. I am certain this was not the quality I had experienced during my previous visits.
While I was initially impressed with the restaurant, this experience left me deeply disappointed. I have many complaints about this incident but will leave it at...
Read moreFood was great. We had tangsuyuk & the stir fried jajangmyun. Unfortunately, I happen to be watching the kitchen staff and saw one of the staff lick sauce off his fingers. I’m talking about full on licking his fingers like he was licking off liquid gold and didn’t want to waste a drop kind of lick. Then someone brought the bowls of noodles out to him for him to plate. He stuck his entire hand that he just licked into the bowl of noodles and fluffed the noodles to keep it from sticking. I told the staff what I saw and they remade the noodles. I told the ajumma that they need to wear gloves and they still did not put on gloves. The Korean ladies all wore gloves but they were only serving the food.
Unfortunately, I noticed everyone who prepares the food did not wear gloves. That’s unfortunate because I found the jajangmyun to be one of the better tasting places in GA. Not sure I will come back until they start taking...
Read morePlace was clean and staffs were friendly. Foid was average. Fried dumpling was good but texture was like air fried instead of deep fried. Jjajangmyeon tastes like 3min instant jjajang. Its not bad but wasn't special. Jjamppong was mild not bad. Gganpoonggi was good but was extremely crispy.
However, it was disappointing to witness this unfortunate incident. Table A ordered Small. Table B ordered Large. Server made mistake and served large to Table A. When the server realized that they made the mistake, they re-served small one to Table A and took away served Large food.(which they already ate some pieces) Server tried to serve them to Table B. Table B refused to receive the food that was served to other table. Server was trying to convince them to take the food. Customer cancelled order and they left. It was very unprofessional and...
