We just came from there. The food was excellent!!!, especially for sushi lovers. We had a main server, Claire, who was so kind. polite,efficient,personable... The atmosphere was pleasant. This was an absolutely wonderful experience for an occasion which was intended to be memorable. We had the shasimi, calamari and shrimp tempura, fire, dragon, caterpillar, holly rolls and maybe a few more rolls. All great and well presented.
Our sake bottle spilled when the menu accidentally hit the bottle. Someone came with a wet rag right away and they replaced the contents voluntarily with a smile. We were even told we were a shrimp short on the appetizer, which we had no way of knowing. It came on its own plate shortly thereafter by special delivery. The people there, customers and employees made for a most exceptional experience.
Ahh then the desert...the carrot cake is definitely huge both in height and width, not to mention delicious. They have a menu for drinks of all kinds, sake beer, wine and anything else you would like. My son is interviewing for a surgical position at the University. I hope he gets it so he can move here and I get to come another time.
Great food, great...
Read moreBest sushi in town, with a price to match. However since COVID the store has completely changed. Half the tables were removed in favor of a massive takeout table for online orders.
Now this isn't inherently bad, but now the wait is ridiculously long, and they don't take reservations. I'm not paying almost $20 a roll without the atmosphere and service that comes with it, and I'm not waiting a minimum of 30 minutes for seating. The hours are already squeezed right up to the dinner rush so unless you get there before 5pm you will be waiting.
I used to love this place but it seems greedy decisions were made in the wake of COVID and I'm not about that attitude. They used to have a 4.8 rating which has been dropping slowly for a year now.
Kyoto Ka and Tougen have food of similar quality, just a hair short and a lot cheaper per roll, no wait at Kyoto Ka and about $5 cheaper, $7 cheaper for similar food at Tougen...
Read moreOur favorite go-to place, not just for sushi but whenever we want a great meal. We love sitting at the bar because Brad is entertaining and gives good suggestions. The nigiri is unmatched, not only in the NWO area but compared to larger cosmopolitan cities. The fish is ALWAYS fresh and it is obvious that the chef is committed to good quality sushi - to the point that sometimes uni or otoro won't be available because he didn't approve of the selection. Our usually order is gyoza, a variety of nigiri (uni and otoro when available), and a shrimp tempura udon. The takoyaki is an occasional treat, and the bibimbop is decent as well. The ambiance/atmosphere seems like a regular sushi place but the food is anything but regular - it is consistently exceptional quality. The wide variety of sake doesn't hurt either, and Brad will always provide input on types of sake or what drink to choose depending on what you're...
