Voodoo Brewing Company – Trendy Vibes, Solid Sips & Surprising Bourbon
As a self-proclaimed craft beer junkie, I had to check out Voodoo Brewing Company, one of the newest players to hit the local beer scene. This place has been catching buzz lately — and now I get why.
Located right off a busy road, it's impossible to miss thanks to its bold signage and prominent building. Parking? Plentiful. Always a win. To the side of the building is a massive patio setup with picnic tables and a kid-friendly play area — love when places mix adult hangouts with family-friendly flexibility.
Stepping inside, you're immediately hit with that modern-industrial-chic aesthetic. Big open floor plan, natural light streaming in from a giant bay door that opens to the patio, and a mix of seating options to fit any vibe. Low-tops, high-tops, cozy lounge area with couches, and of course, the traditional bar — which is where we posted up.
We were greeted right away by a hostess (nice touch), and once seated at the bar, we started scanning the beer board — mounted prominently on the back wall like a craft beer scoreboard. The selection? Not overwhelming, but well-curated, with a good variety of styles for every palate. I went for the Thunder Lizard — solid beer, nothing groundbreaking, but a good, easy drinker. Crisp, well-balanced, just not particularly memorable.
Now here’s where it got interesting — they also have an extensive spirits list. And I’m talkin’ some legit bourbon options that caught me off guard in the best way. I couldn’t resist a pour alongside my beer, and honestly? The bourbon was the highlight of my visit.
Unfortunately, the kitchen wasn’t serving during our stop, so I can’t speak to the food (yet). But the dishes we did see being brought out looked promising — think elevated bar food with a fresher twist. Definitely gives me a reason to come back and eat my way through the menu.
The vibe here is great. Clean, trendy, laid-back without being too loud. It’s the kind of place you can chill with friends, meet up for a casual date, or bring the fam for an afternoon hang. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knew their stuff. Big props for that. Even the owner came over to say hi, which felt personal and appreciated — even if we were too wiped from the day to fully engage (sorry, next time!).
Now, let’s address the one thing that made me pause: after noticing how polished the layout and branding were, we did a little digging. Turns out Voodoo Brewing is a franchise, not a local indie spot. And while that doesn’t ruin the experience, it’s worth noting — especially if you’re big on supporting truly local breweries. The branding definitely leans into the "local-craft" aesthetic, which makes that realization feel a little less organic.
That said — I’m not mad about it. The place delivers. The beer is decent, the bourbon selection is impressive, the team is friendly, and the whole venue just works.
TL;DR:
Voodoo Brewing Co. brings trendy vibes, approachable craft beer, and an unexpected bourbon surprise to town. While it's not a homegrown operation, it still serves up a great experience worth checking out. I’ll absolutely be back — hungry, chatty, and ready...
Read moreWe really wanted to give this place a fair chance because we live close and want to support the locally owned places in our area. Starting with the good. The bar tender was attentive and friendly. She answered all of our questions. Our waitress, Kimberley, was also really great. But that is where it ended. The beer menu is only by QR code which made it difficult for some in our group. The wall menu was placed so low that people sitting at the tables against the wall blocked the bottom options. They blew a keg that a couple in our group were drinking so there was a delay. The bar tender offered other options until it could be changed. (It was the beer that most closely tasted like budlight) We were texted that our table was ready in about 35 minutes of the expected 40. We tried to order the beer that the keg was being changed, but the waitress told us that beer was 86, meaning off the menu for the night. Then, when ordering food, we were told they ran out of pub chips (it was 7pm) with no replacement option but could have fries for the $2 upcharge. We opted for fries. The food took a while to come out but it was busy, so no big deal. The fries were cold, even soggy, but the sandwiches were really hot. I asked for no bang bang sauce on my chicken sandwich but had to send it back to swap out the bun, which had the the spicy sauce on it. It was a swift return and otherwise tasty. My husband ordered a different chicken sandwich but thought it was tasteless. He thought the slaw and aioli on it could have been more flavorful. The burger was reported to be average. The restaurant is visually appealing on the inside but one of the TVs in the dining area wasn't working. Additionally, because of so many hard surfaces, it was quite noisy. Finally, as we were leaving several children, ages 5 to 7ish were running amok on the patio, standing on tables, and crawling under chairs. We saw no supervision. There were no guests on the patio so no bother. However, it felt like a bold move to just turn kids loose out there. Right now, I simply can't give a good review. However, we will try it again and I will edit...
Read moreAWFUL EXPERIENCE. WON'T RETURN!!! Ordered a doppelbock $10 for a 5 oz pour. It is usually a dark rich flavorful German beer. It was awful!!! If you like a sour beer that smells like skunk you'll be in for a treat. They took it away and charged me for it! They wouldn't remove it from our bill! They don't tell you that up front. So only order a taste of anything you want to try. Don't order a full pour of anything you haven't tasted. The service was exceptionally bad. First server at the bar got our drinks, but when the order was checked by another server Corinna they missed putting our food order in and were now out of one of the condiments for our food. Our "second" order was the truffle fries, They were pretty limp. The aioli was nice. The service at the bar was generally very hazard, servers circulating all around the bar. People generally had a big wait like we did just to order anything. They need better management. The music, a solo guitarist was terrible, our ears were bleeding from his very loud, frequently off-key singing. People applauded only when he was done. We think they were glad. The first server at the bar only returned to us when she saw us getting ready to go, probably to get a tip. No tip for her. We gave Corinna a nice tip. She was attentive, kind and got a food order in for us. Two different managers came to "explain" why they were charging us for a small very expensive beer I couldn't drink. The place is always packed. People must be desperate! The other beers we tried were marginal at best. The place really needs to up their game for service, food supply and quality along with the "live music" they offer. We certainly won't be back even though we live nearby. That's too bad. We're glad that there are plenty of other great breweries in Toledo. Save your money and go...
