I have been to Madison Social several times before - and frankly, I’ve never been blown away by their food, drinks, or their service. Their neighbor, Township, is the superior of the two.
However, I was willing to go the other night (April 3, 2019) with a few friends, as it was BLT day - $5 BLT dip all day long. We arrived around 8 PM, and were told by the hostess that it would be a 45 minute wait. We surely didn’t mind as we were anticipating the place would be packed for this awesome deal (the BLT dip is normally $10.50). What was confusing was the fact that there were at least a dozen tables that we could see that were uninhabited.
We were seated sometime around 8:40. The waitress promptly came over and we immediately ordered waters as well as an order of the BLT dip. It took about 20 minutes to get the BLT dip that we ordered - but we understood. It was BLT day! Of course it would take longer than usual. We finished our BLT dip in 5 minutes - we were starving. After about 10 minutes of sitting there waiting for the waitress to come back, we finally placed an order for our second BLT dip (with extra bread).
At this point, we are out of water & we don’t see our waitress for another 30 minutes. The funny part is - we saw a food runner bring out a BLT dip with extra bread to the table next to us. What a coincidence! Our waitress finally comes back to us and apologizes for the wait. We told her that we think someone gave our order to the people next to us (who got there after us & ordered after we placed our order for the second dip). She agreed and apologized, and said that our second BLT dip would be free, but that it would be a bit longer as they are making a huge fresh batch. We appreciated her friendly attitude as well as her being frank with us.
This is where the story turns really sour.(remember, we’ve now been waiting upwards of half an hour for our order).
Another FORTY minutes pass by. During these 40 minutes, we see about a dozen other orders of BLT dip go to other tables. At this point we’ve been waiting over an hour. Our waitress returns to us and says ‘I’m sorry about the wait, but you guys don’t have to wait if you don’t want to since the second dip has taken so long.’
I’m sorry. What? Sure, if you had told us that after 10 minutes of waiting, we would’ve agreed to leave. Now, you have wasted over an hour of our time. We’re not leaving until we get what we ordered an HOUR AGO.
30 more minutes go by. It is now after 10 PM on a Wednesday. Our waitress finally comes back once more and tells us that the bread is ready, but the dip will just be one more second.
We finally got our dip - but here’s the catch. No extra bread! She threw the dip and bread on the table and quickly left to go to other tables - she could probably sense we were very upset, even though we knew it wasn’t directly her fault.
She was at the table behind us, and I said ‘Excuse me, we ordered extra bread. Would that even be possible at this point or should we just forget it?’ She said ‘I’m sorry, I was just trying to get the dip out to you as soon as possible.’ We understood.
Another 5 minutes pass by, and our waitress brings us an extra loaf of bread. Now, the bread Madison Social serves with their BLT dip is next-level. It’s toasted and covered in salt and butter. It’s one of the best things they have. This loaf of bread (that they so graciously charged us $1.25 for, even though we ordered it with our ‘free’ BLT dip) was not toasted, it had no butter or salt. It was a hoagie roll.
We knew this nightmare had to come to an end at some point soon. But first, we had to wait another chunk of time before we got the checks.
In conclusion, we understood it would be a busy night, but it wasn’t so busy that we needed to be there for 2 hours for 2 appetizers. There were empty tables all over the patio, albeit they hadn’t been bussed, but that’s a separate issue. Whether or not they had this special going on, the service we received, or lack thereof, is completely...
Read moreOK food, good atmosphere for home & away football games. However, the bouncers are sadistic power-trippers who choke people out after they have literally already left (as they are literally already walking out the door, not even on the property, getting attacked from behind), and then when the cops are called they make it as hard as possible for the victim to press charges against the assaulter. There is a tent by the front door meant to purposely obscure the camera's view so that they can attack and choke people who are not even inside of the bar with impunity. Management took the bouncer's side without hearing the victim out whatsoever. Filed a police report and was checked out by EMS, though the officer who went in to see the security footage said it would be hard to press charges due to the obscured view from the tent near the entrance, which seems to be clearly by design.
This is all referring to an incident that occured on 5/31 in which I was choked out by a bouncer after I verbally disagreed with the dress code he selectively enforced for my friend (no tank tops, though I have 100% seen them in there before, but whatever). I was in dress code, and after going to the street quickly to regroup and plan for my friend to change, I went back to get one of my friends who had already entered, and the bouncer didn't let me in. Okay, that's fine, I'll respect that and just leave. As I am literally walking away from the bar and back to the street, I get attacked from behind and brought down to the ground into a chokehold for over 20 seconds, despite me tapping out. He only stopped when some random bystanders said that he might kill me. I was in genuine fear for my own life since this maniac was PHYSICALLY assaulting me over the most mild and trivial VERBAL disagreement. I was walking off the property like he asked, but he still choked and pinned me down, ironically keeping me there on the property longer. He was not trying to keep the bar safe, he was a maniac looking for an excuse to assault the first person he could, and he likely still...
Read moreWent for Sunday lunch around 1:15pm a couple weeks ago during my roadtrip from Houston to Miami with my dog.
This place is run by people who don't know how to respect others: I was seated but no one came to my table for 30min. I attempted to flag down someone to help take my order but at least 5 different waiters / waitresses ignored me by straight up walking past when I was waiving and talking to them.
It's already 2pm and I just finished a 6 hour drive by myself. I'm exhausted and at this point, no waitresses / waiters were nice enough to even offer water for either me or my dog. This is ridiculous. After numerous attempts to get someone to serve me, one waitress was finally nice enough to take my order and YES finally WATER. And No, they still forgot to bring my dog water but at that time I just asked them to make the food asap so we both could leave.
I wasn't particularly upset because I was mistreated, but more about the reason I was mistreated. I was the only asian dining by myself. A white couple came in 10min after me, still managed to be served by someone straight away, and without even asking, ofc water for them and their dog. Another family watched me left alone in the outdoor dining room for 30min and was trying to step in and comfort me. If you have a problem with serving someone of ASIAN DESCENT, then why don't you put a note on the front door that indicates so? Oh yes, you can't because you know very well how terrible racial discrimination is, especially if you are tagged so as a business.
This is a business next to FSU, where students and families come in pretty frequently. Shouldn't you, as a business, set a good standard in treating people right and treating them with respect?
I'm not asking much, but I just hope this review would do something to help people realize that being mistreated because of your race and ethnicity is extremely disheartening. This is one of the worst implicit racism encounter I had in my life. If the business owner sees this review, I hope you could do something to change the...
