As of today I never heard back from the restaurant. Here is a review I sent directly to them. Review your orders before they cash you out.
Good Morning, I am writing to comment on my visit this morning 3/2/24 about 7:40am. I ordered 2 loaves of cuban bread, 3 chocolate chip cookies, 2 guava and cheese turnovers, 2 bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, and one cafe con leche. My total was about $60 and I gave 10% tip. When waiting at the coffee bar for my order the lady gives me two coffees. I was confused and, since I declined my receipt, went over to the lady who rang my up. (young caucasian female with short blonde hair, she was very nice) She explained she added 2 combos instead of 2 sandwiches individually. Whatever, an error happened, it was fine. Then a lady with black straight hair, spanish looking stands beside me and asks me what happened. Dumbfounded, I just stared at her. I didnt know who she was or why she was approaching me. She then turns to ask the girl at the register and the girl explains what happened. She walks around the counter and addressing the young girl explains she cant do XYZ because only the manager has the key.....you have to read the order back to customers XYZ....and we can fix it but we get busy blah blah blah. She then just tells me she refunded me one combo and hands me a receipt then advises me to leave the other coffee and she will "throw it out". I was again dumbfounded because I was just going to take the other coffee. I didnt say anything since she already decided what she wanted to do. When my order came it had third sandwich in it so I asked her if she wanted to toss the extra sandwich (not wanting to leave with something I did not pay for) and without a word she grabbed it and walked away. First, the young girl behind the register made a mistake while the store was running slow. This is a normal thing and she was very apologetic. On the other hand, the lady who I assume was the manager, she needs a lesson in customer service and managerial skills. First, you dont walk up to a situation and not identify yourself. Second, you dont get on to employees in front of customers. You handle the situation and then have a discussion with the employee when time allows. Third, you dont assume the customer just wants refunds on everything. You ask the customer how they would like to resolve the error and do what you can based on the response (customers are not always right). Fourth, not that she had to but it definitely would boost the customer experience and word of mouth, DONT tell someone you will just throw out the food made in error. Offer it to the customer at least as a kind gesture or just keep the throwing out part to yourself. Fifth, the manager did not address me courteously at all. Not in the beginning or the end of my experience. I am taking the time to write this with the hope that the manager receives the training she needs in the realm of customer service and employee management. A company is nothing without its customers and employees and an ill trained manager can negatively affect both. I hope that management will review the cameras to see the experience I had. So they can see the whole story, not just my perspective typed here. I did not want to do a public review based on my experience today but I would like to hear a response to this inquiry. I am a Tampa native and have been visiting La Segunda (the original) since I was a child. I was very excited for this one to open as it is much closer to home but this experience was a horrible start to my day at no fault of my...
Read moreI had my lunch there today so here is my honest review. The place was not full, was like +/- 75% of tables taken. When I arrived, I was next in line on two cashiers, so I thought it wouldn't take long... well, took approx 5 minutes... the lady who took my order was not rude, but she was also straight to the point, just wanted to get my order and move on, I dont even think she looked at me... I ordered a "1915 club" sandwich, a small bag of chips and a fountain drink.. with 10% tip, it was a total of $16.11, which I thought wow... thats a lot for a sandwich... but ok... 12:30, the fountain machine didn't have diet coke, the only diet product on the small fountain machine. I told the lady who works there and perhaps she didnt hear me, but then 30 seconds later another man came and told her that they were out, he was clearly annoyed that he paid for diet coke and there was none (I was too), and she said would report it (no "sorry"... no "my apologies for the inconvenience"... nothing) ... to my suprise, the lady just kept doing her stuff, walking around, etc... I stayed long 25 minutes there waiting for my sandwich and nothing was done to the fountain machine and I don't think it was reported. Thats right, my sandwich took 25 minutes to get ready (ordered 12:30, got it back to my car at 12:57), no napkins were provided and a long hair was found inside the box (see photo). in Summary, I thought the service was bad and sandwich was overpriced; it was tasty, but just ok, I would not say its a must try... the employees needs training to serve better the clients, so the clients wants to come back and don't write bad reviews on...
Read moreWarning - if you are looking for pre-package, microwaved fast food, you are in the wrong place! BREAKFAST/LUNCH This place is absolutely fantastic - and why? Because they are anxious to please. Their made-to-order scrambled eggs are light and fluffy, chorizo - never greasy, salads are huge and beautiful, pastries (ask which are just made) are wonderful and pork sandwich tastes fresh! CUBAN BREAD I love the half loaves still warm from the oven. As a couple, we don't need a full loaf (full loaves arrive fresh from Ybor location) which is why the half loaf is perfect for us! CUBAN COFFEE I NEVER like cuban or cafe con leche coffee even in Ybor City but thought I would try it and requested a little extra milk. The barista person was spot on and was so sweet and friendly. I gave her glowing feedback to manager Bruce and it turns out she was employee of the month. NEW LOCALE This location has been opened about 6 months, so you have to give the manager Bruce, his staff and obviously a supportive owner a Bravo! Knowing how difficult it is to find great people for food service, hire, train, prepare foods, breads and pastries to high standards and keep it clean, etc., they've done a great job. Starting in a new location, fast service/timing is not easy for a chain, so imagine how well they are doing for a family business.
If you can make better, more authentic Cuban food at home, make it and let the rest of us enjoy this new location in peace.
Note: Please make sure foods, sauces, etc. do not have MSG (monosodium glutamate) in it. Could cause migraine-type headaches, salt-burn on tongue/lips, naseau,...
