The food is "ok" in comparison to the likes of Fuji Ichiban, Aji Ichi, Ajisen, etc., but if you want a more traditional ramen-ya feel, perhaps sit at the counter of Menkui. For those expecting to find the high quality food you'd find anywhere in Japan, don't get your hopes up.
We dine here often enough because of our PHR membership. Good service is a hit & miss; we definitely have our favorite servers. Food prices have increased while unfortunately portion size had also decreased, but worst of all food quality has seemingly declined.
My biggest gripe with this establishment is that EVERY time we've visited, the kitchen staff has been obviously noisy. They have a long, open kitchen with a high quality but LOUD ventilation system, which means that the entire restaurant can hear the kitchen staff yelling at each other. One chef all the way down at the grill is yelling at the another chef down at the prep station all about his day, vice versa, cuss words and all. All the while, their blatant chatter drowns out the ironic choice of classical music in the quiet dining area.
What really killed the mood for us was receiving burnt chahan (our gyoza was burnt too but, but that's the style). Upon bringing this to the attention of our server who looked like she detested just being there, she said she would bring out a manager. To my surprise, it was the same chef who was the biggest culprit - the one I watched cook our chahan and gyoza at the grill end, cussing & laughing away with no cares in the world - least especially about our food. I showed him all the pieces of what appeared to be burnt eggs, burnt fish cake, burnt everything. He sincerely apologized and offered a new one. I declined because we didn't have time to wait, so he had our disinterested server remove it from the bill. I expressed my appreciation, but I definitely gave him an earful about being more attentive to his co-workers. He even apologized to my children for use of vulgar language. He also admitted that it's been a common complaint. I strongly suggested that as a kitchen supervisor, he needs to enforce saving their conversations for break, starting with leading by example. We haven't been back since, but now I'm curious if there's been...
Read moreI’ve been to Hokkaido at the PIC hotel several times, but it’s been well over a year since I’ve been there so I decided to pay them a visit. We arrived a little bit after 11am (their opening time) and we were seated immediately. We settled on a shoyu ramen for my daughter and I don’t remember which one I had, but it had a buttery flavor to it and had corn in it. In addition to the ramen, we also had chahan and karaage (you can never go wrong with these here).
Our food was brought to us promptly and despite how busy they were getting, we were checked on a handful of times and the waitstaff was friendly. I knew I over ordered food so the chahan and karaage came home with us and they were delicious as leftovers!!
This place does not have a large menu, but each time I’ve gone, I’ve always enjoyed what I had. Other than the parking (during prime time, kinda have to walk far unless you’re staying at PIC) I would hands down come here than go to the other big name one here. My rating here will be specifically for my experience THIS time, which is a 5, however my overall experience for this restaurant for all my experiences is still a 4.
I love their ramen and will continue to suggest this place!!! Try them out if you haven’t!!!
The Hokkaido ramen house is located at the PIC Hotel at 210 Pale San Vitores Rd, Tamuning, 96913, Guam.

Read moreUpdate 03 February 2019: Still no wait at this restaurant. The service and wait staff is excellent. The food came out relatively quick and tasted a lot better than I remember (not as salty as the first time). We ordered the Tonkatsu ramen, fried rice, karaage, and gyoza and were all really good. They are now open for breakfast starting at 0800 serving only one breakfast item, which is an omelette ramen. I came too late to try it as they stop serving it at 1100.
-----break----- Love the ramen here! I personally do not like their regular fried rice, I prefer the kimchee fried rice. Very close to Fuji Ichiban down the road, but different in their own ways. There's never a wait to be seated and the food always comes out fast! I enjoy the atmosphere a lot and love the emptiness of...
