I'd like to begin by saying that I understand the business just opened, so they deserve some grace to get it to its full potential.
The restaurant is cute but unfortunately the inside has limited tables. I did see, on my way out, that their outdoor terrace has a cute vibe to enjoy a drink and an appetizer...so we might try that one day.
The staff is courteous, polite, and very sweet. They are still a bit green but the more they get into the groove of things, I'm sure they'll keep doing very well.
I've experienced this type of "cook it yourself" restaurants in Asia, so I understood that there is a wait time while your food cooks. This was not an issue for us.
As this was our first time at the Skewer House, we ordered 1 appetizer, and a few things to test things out.
The beef and cucumber appetizer has more beef than cucumbers. My husband enjoyed the whole salad, especially since the beef was plenty with very little amount of cucumbers. I, on the other hand, enjoyed everything about the salad (cucumber, veggies, vinaigrette, especially the roasted peanuts..) except for the beef. I wish there was a vegetarian version of that same exact salad with cucumbers as the shining star.
We've ordered the beef, chicken thighs, shrimp, mushroom, and corn skewers. We've also ordered the scallops and sides of rice. The complimentary edamame bowl is a nice touch!
•The beef was my favorite of the bunch, since it meshed very well with the sauce provided at the table. •The chicken needs a better marinade, our meal became dependent on the sauce, making it one dimensional. I would've preferred having the option to enjoy a flavorful marinated chicken with or without the sauce. •The shrimps were shrimps, what else can I say...we've enjoyed them. •The scallop was well cooked and a good size, however it was a bit flavorless. Even with the enjoyable garlic on top, the scallops were cooked without seasoning or butter or lemon, or cheese, to allow them to come to life. Again, making us rely on the table sauce.
•The mushrooms did not taste very fresh. • The corn on the cob was definitely not fresh...we did not enjoy that part. I would've preferred grilling some raw garlic and sweet peppers.
The rice was definitely necessary so I'm glad someone made that suggestion previously. At the price of the overall meal, I think the rice should've been just $0.99 instead of $1.99...since the rice is a must to enjoy the overall meal.
We will absolutely give this restaurant a few more weeks to get their footing under them and try it again. It is an enjoyable environment. It should perhaps have some gentle ambiance music to tone down the conversations from nearby tables. Other than the lack of seasoning, which can be rectified...this place has great potential. Wishing them the...
Read moreTumon Skewer House caught our attention because of its novelty cooking method. They have dinning tables with rectangular hot pit that rotate the skewered food and using an sand glass timer of 5 minutes. Your food is cooked nicely without having to attend to constantly. They have beef, lamb, pork, chicken, vegetables, and seafood to choose from. The atmosphere very relaxing and quiet. They have a nice line up of liquor, beer, and sake. Makes for a perfect place to hangout, as everyone can eat at their own leisure. I liked the lamb and the beef. Their dipping sauce and powder gives a balanced season taste to the meats & vegetables. Overall I highly recommend Tumon...
Read more1st, it's cramped. No clue how they passed fire code. The outlets run on the floor in-between the tables, which you can only enter/exit from 1 side. The outlets are placed in a dangerous way so that if any drink spills, it's going right into the outlet. While we were waiting on our food to be cooked, a staff member turned on the stove next to us and the electrical cord blew. I ordered a lemon sour but was not sour and didn't taste like any sochu I've ever drank before. Tasted nasty. Lamb didn't taste good. Only 1 choice of dipping sauce. The seasoning in the other jar tasted funky. Takes 15+ minutes to cook anything. Very little meat and there's a...
