Oishi Sushi Hibachi Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Tarpon Springs

The food was decent but the service was absolutely horrendous. 1.4/5

It took 15 minutes to order my drinks and then another 25 minutes for it to arrive. Meaning it took 40 minutes from when I sat down to get a simple glass of water. Then after that, the waitress, seemed to forget almost anything I said needing to be reminded three times just for any little request. Eventually when the food came (an hour and a half later) it was good, but the service tarnished the experience. The server never one checked on us, refilled a drink, or say anything. The largest interaction was her bringing the food from the kitchen to the table. If i needed anything I had to get up and directly get her. Also, despite it being busy at arrival, by this point, the place was mostly clear with there being only three occupied tables in the restaurant, and two waitresses. Later during the meal, my mother who was at the table wanted some ginger with her sushi and we were able to get the waitress, but she forgot, so I asked again and it almost seemed as if she ignored me. Finally, on the third try, she scoffed and brought a small plate with an entire pile of ginger in an obviously aggressive and petty manner. By the end, despite the food being decent, the non-existent service made the meal unenjoyable. The dinner in total, was quite pricey, which I would not have minded if it wasn't for the service. The waitress did absolutely nothing to help me and did less than the bare minimum, forgetting everything, not stopping once at my table, and being rude. This has ensured that I will not come back. If it was not for the service the restaurant would of been four stars.

Place looks a bit rough on the outside but it's pleasant once inside, but that's where it seems to go back downhill.

The service was fast, to the point where it felt like they were just trying to turn over tables. When we asked for a minute to review the 6 page menu, they literally gave us a minute.

After feels ng rushed, we ordered our food. Steamed buns, veggie tempura, 12 piece sushi deluxe with shrimp Tom yum for myself and my wife ordered an avocado roll, cucumber roll and a veggie roll.

Unfortunately the soup was meh, at best. The steamed buns were good. I always enjoy a steamed bun. The tempura was very crispy but a couple of the veggies were burned.

The sushi itself seemed old. Every place I've had sushi, the fish felt tight and most times cool, this was loose and warm, a couple of them watery. Not enjoyable to eat.

The avocado rolls were clumsy, missing ride on some sides, while others burst open. Cucumber rolls were ok. The veggie rolls were again, slightly burned tempura wrapped in the sushi roll.

They had a few gimmicks on the plate to possibly take away from the mediocre (at best) food but all in all, the food was not worth the price. To top it off, 1 out of the 2 servers was not polite or friendly So it made the experience that much more...

My best friend brought me here a couple years ago for my birthday, he came from California and he’s Chinese so he knows how to spot legit places or not. Especially in Florida, it’s hard to find authentic Japanese food and Mexican food. He loved everything about this place and so did I! The ambience, the decor, but especially the food, this is the best Japanese cuisine you’ll find in the area and maybe all of Florida. We got The variety of options, beautiful presentation, and cleanliness are consistently impressive. The food is always served very quickly, which I really appreciate. We got the lobster roll, shaped like a heart, it had a specific name but I can’t remember, they also had the best Takoyaki which is so hard to find, I’ve searched up and down at Japanese restaurant menus near me and this is one of the only places that has it! It was soooo good! I loved the sushi boat and how it lit up, so cool. The sake drinks and mixed cocktails were very yummy too, they have Japanese beer as well!
