The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable and we enjoyed the artsy feel about the place. The food and drinks were very good but I wish we would have had an experienced server. She couldn't answer some of our questions with any certainty which was unfortunate because this was our first visit. They had barrel aged cocktails which we really enjoy and they offered a flight of them but she couldn't tell us what they were. I had a peach Moscow that was fantastic and my husband had the old fashioned. We asked what was on the charcuterie board and she said there was a fontina cheese, pickles and some peppers stuffed with goat cheese. We indicated that we didn’t like goat cheese and she said that we could probably substitute for blue cheese. There was no mention of any meat but we thought we would try it anyway. It came out and it was beautiful and it was large enough for four people. I'm assuming the chef brought it out because she named everything that was on the board. The pickled onions and carrots were seasoned to perfection. We don't normally eat raw onions and we would have asked for them to be removed if it had been mentioned but I'm glad they were left on the board. The sweet cucumbers had just a hint of sweetness which was refreshing. There was a large amount of the meat and cheeses. Great Board! The fried green tomato stack was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. The tomato was nice and crisp with a dollop of avocado topped with a nice chunk of fresh crab meat drizzled with a balsamic reduction. My husband doesn't care for tomatoes and he really enjoyed it. The bowl of bisque soup was large enough for us to share. It had a thick creamy consistency and was full of flavor. I used a toast from the charcuterie board as croutons for the soup. The house salad came with a white vinaigrette which had a smooth creamy texture with a slight sweet after taste. I don't know what they put in this but it was amazing! I put the leftover blue cheese from the charcuterie board on my salad and it was great! Fresh bread was brought out with the salad. It was similar to a French baguette but more dense and it was accompanied with what we assumed was a flavored olive oil of some sort. We overheard the other server talk about the two specials so we asked our server and she told us that the trio special was a filet, salmon & shrimp and the other was a shrimp & pasta dish with a lobster sauce. The trio had very good portions of filet, salmon and shrimp. The entrees were presented beautifully and everything was very fresh and seasoned to perfection. We will be back to try out some of the...
Read moreWhat a major disappointment! My wife and I have given Currents restaurant in Tarpon Springs 3 chances and only enjoyed our meals the first time. It literally is like they hired new kitchen staff and they're not good. The first visit was wonderful, shrimp and grits, and two entrees that I can't remember now, but everything including service was top rate. The 2nd visit the service was great but the food was awful, so bad we couldn't finish it. Tonight, Christmas eve my wife and I decided to give them another try and have a beautiful Christmas eve dinner out. It couldn't have been farther from what happened. From the start our server (never said his name so I can't tell you) seemed overwhelmed and in the weeds, more about him in a minute. My wife's crab cake appetizer came out cold and had to be sent back. Our food took 1 1/2 hours to come out, my wife ordered the cold water lobster tales and I ordered the filet mignon med rare and the upcharge lobster tale. When the food finally got to us I took one bite of my steak and in was cold and very rare! My wife's lobster was just warm. I brought the issue up with the server (still don't know his name) he said yes that's not med rare and took my plate. Meanwhile my wife is eating alone and our Christmas Eve dinner is not going well. 15 to 20 minutes later the server brings my plate back with the same steak on it and still rare and also my lobster is not on the plate. I said to him this is the same steak and its still raw, our server actually says to me no it's a different steak. You could clearly see the piece I had cut out and it was still raw. So he was clearly trying to cover his a.., as for the lobster he says to me they are grilling another one but he didn't want to wait. Again another lie as if that was the case the lobster would have been cooking while they were cooking me a new steak. I asked to just take it away and by now my wife is very upset as the night has been ruined! My wife spoke with the owner and she tried to cover by saying that is not what we do here, however it just happened. So either they cut corners or the server didn't think to make sure it was right before coming back. We won't be back and will make sure will tell people to go...
Read moreHad dinner reservations for New Year's Eve, we ordered at 8:20 PM (Prime Rib and Crab Cakes, were told a few minutes later they were out of Crab Cakes and substituted Scallops Rockefeller). The other couple ordered Grouper and Salmon plus appetizers-about 40 minutes passes and one of the appetizers shows up (Escargot), nothing for anyone else. We ask about the order, were told 'they are backed up in the kitchen' and get salads about 10 minutes later, still no 2nd appetizer. We ask for bread, we told, 'they are slicing it' but nothing appears at the table. Another 30 minutes goes by and the 2nd appetizer shows up (Scallops Rockefeller), we are told, 'the main courses should be out soon', then 10 minutes later and told, 'they will be right out'. Somewhere along the way we do get some bread, although it wasn't exactly 'straight from the oven or really worth waiting for. It's already 10 PM, by the way. Finally, after numerous conversations with the staff and 'manager', our main courses show up at 10:20, about 2 hours after ordering-the 'Prime Rib', though, looks suspiciously like a STEAK with lots of gristle and fat. I ask the server about it and he admits it isn't Prime rib but 'they wanted to give you something close'. Well, it's red meat, that's about as close as it got. The Scallop Rockefeller were tasteless (other than salt), the mashed potatoes cold and salty and the Grouper and Salmon way overcooked. We ask for the manager again and he apologizes with the convenient story about how they double booked the restaurant due to an on-line reservations hiccup, something none of us believed. We had to ask about how they were going to make this right and he ASKS US what we wanted, maybe hoping we would let them off the hook. Our answer, which was that we didn't want to pay for the food, was followed by an offer to keep the drinks and wine on the tab and take off the food, which we accepted although the proper offer should have been the entire bill. I hate writing reviews like this but facts are facts, I won't be back under any circumstances and they should be embarrassed beyond...
