Hummus Xpress + Food Truck — Restaurant in Tempe

This was our spot a few years ago. Today we were there (10/25) in the evening. No one else was there, completely empty. I think the 2 workers were busy doing other things as we waited a few minutes at the counter to see if they were still opened. We checked and it said until 8pm. Server had to take his ear buds out to help us. Gross. Not friendly, but not to say he was rude— but he was just there waiting on us to pick, not engaging with us at all.

After all that, we sat down to eat and as we were eating I saw him making food with no gloves, touching his nose, phone and ear buds. Very gross. I hope the food was for him or his friend/coworker. After this, I think it’s time to find a new spot.

Food: was way off today. Bean salad beans were not tender but a little crunchy. Falafel had big pieces of chickpeas that made it unpleasant to eat . Hummus was suuuupppper thick and not what we were expecting either.

$30 including tip for just two bowls— 👎😮

Service: Needs improvements. Engage with customers. Welcome us. Tell us to come back. We ordered bowls and I didn’t know what came with the bowl, like I mentioned he just stood there, it would’ve been nice if there was better hospitality.

Atmosphere: there was none other than the middle eastern music. Though the tables were nice.

*Please retrain employees about the importance of hygiene, especially with all the food borne illnesses going around...

What can I say? Food was great, employees were kind and well mannered. The comfort and care extends far beyond any run of the mill hummus shop as you can really taste the love put into every bite. I've got to say I'm no fan of beats so that wasn't on my radar but man oh man the jalepeno hummus was to die for. Definitely spicy but the mouth watering taste made it all worth the burn. I hope many get to try this bold yet humble place as it would be a shame to see a business run into the ground by the likes of other competitors just because they are bigger and have more revenue. I think that's what makes this place special. No money could ever be enough to steer them to change the level of chefpertise brought out to every customer. And please remember to grab a baklava by the register and throw some coins in the tip jar as it was surprising to see so little people were tipping when such quality food and service was given. Keep up the good work Hummus Express as you deserve a at on the back. The servings were large and considering how healthy the menu options are you can eat until your belly bursts and still not gain a pound. Try the bowls with a mix of every meat as you will not regret it. Oh yeah also remember to try to meet up with mobile Hummus fleet if you can't manage to swing by their Tempe location. Wonderful place with great food. The food ordering process is a bit odd. You select from one of "Pita", "Bowl", "Salad", or "Platter" which have various choices for meats, vegetables, salads (cold vegetable mixes), toppings (and sauce.

I ordered a bowl for my wife and a platter myself, since I wanted to try two of the proteins (Marinated chicken and Alleppo beef), but she just wanted one.

The end result is that the platter and bowl are essentially the same thing though: tin foil bowls that end up as piles of whatever you choose to put in them.

Rice is first (if you want it), then vegetables, proteins, choice of hummus, salads, toppings (pickles, olives, onions and such), and finally sauce.

We ordered the sauce on the side, and I didn't feel the need for the Tahini sauce I ordered. My wife enjoyed the Tzatziki with her meal though.

The bowls and platters also come with a choice of Pita (white or whole wheat) and this served as a useful vehicle for the Hummus.

Everything we had was fresh and flavorful, and the only complaint I might have is that the chicken was all white meat and a little on the dry side (perhaps I should have used the Tahini sauce!).

We'll definitely be headed back soon.
