The Taco Spot — Restaurant in Tempe

I was really looking forward to trying The Taco Spot after hearing good things, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing and left me feeling sick. I ordered the birria tacos with consommé around 6 PM, and while the flavor was decent at the time, the meal was extremely greasy and heavy — more so than other birria places I’ve tried. 6am next day, woke up anxious and I began feeling nauseous and bloated, which led to multiple episodes of TMI by morning.

I’ve had birria from many spots before without any issues, so this reaction stood out. It makes me concerned that something may not have been stored, handled, or reheated properly — especially the consommé. Food safety is a serious issue, and while I can’t prove it came from here, the timing and symptoms were strongly linked to this meal. I didn’t eat anything else unusual that day, and I rarely react this way to food.

It’s disappointing because I genuinely wanted to enjoy this place and support local spots. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and double-checks their food handling procedures, especially for dishes like consommé that are prone to spoilage. I won’t be returning based on this experience, and I hope no one...

I was visiting and was pretty excited to try this place based on the stars/reviews. I unfortunately was pretty disappointed. I ordered chicken, asada, and surf n turf. The surf n turf was the only decent one, the chicken had almost no flavor/seasoning, and the asada was ok but super salty but what also got me was…. The nacho cheese as cheese? It threw a lot of the flavors off and the taco/tortilla didn’t even appear/taste to be cooked. As you can see it just looks like it was taken out of the pack and microwaved. No cooking marks on it or anything.

I really wanted to like this place but I wouldn’t come back here. I’ll attach pics to show what I mean about the tortilla and the cheese. Sorry but that cheese does not belong on tacos 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have you seen the pics they have on their advertisement for their food? Cause the Birria tacos I received looked NOTHING like what is on that pic. But I thought hey it has almost 5 stars it's gotta be good right? Wrong. The amount of meat was literally like two bites per taco. Not to mention no consome? And to top it all off I specifically ordered my tacos with no onion and what do I get? A pound of onion on each taco (probably more than the amount of meat) and not even a little salsa or something for the burrito I ordered. Why are you guys lying saying this place is so good, be serious. Literally the only reason I gave two stars is cause at least my daughter didn't mind...
