Denny's — Restaurant in Temple

Went to eat a very late breakfast. My mother had heart surgery this particular day. Left the hospital and decided to eat at Denny’s. We would eat at the old Denny’s often here in Temple, so was excited to try out the new one. We were surprised to see that there was no other cars there when we arrived. Reluctantly walk up and could see that they we’re actually opened. Went in and did get a table very quickly. The young man offered us a particular table which was ok with us. He asked us what we would like to drink. My wife asked for coffee and I just wanted water. He said that they where out of coffee, but could make some, so it wouldn’t take too long. A little later her returned with the coffee and water and then disappeared. So we sat for a little while and he later did return with the nastiest menus I’ve ever seen. I asked him did they have creamer for the coffee and he said oh there is some left on another table. Quite surprised to be offered some one else’s left overs. My wife said that would be ok, so she could finally get her now not so hot coffee fixed. We reluctantly used the menus and decided what to order. He finally came back and we gave him our order. Another couple did come in, so he started to wait on them. After he had waited on the other couple he came back to pick up the menus, I asked him who in charge of cleaning the menus. He replied that he didn’t know, and I said I do, nobody. They where all sticky and each menu page was riddled with crumps. We got our food and asked if there was anything else he could get us. I started by saying that I could use some silverware. He said Oh sorry let me get you some. When he came back I asked him could I have more butter since on little dab of butter really wasn’t enough. He te turned shortly and I realized we didn’t even have syrup. So, he went and I got some. When he returned I thanked him and asked if my wife could get some more coffee. It was like begging for each and every item. The pancakes and sausage were good, but the eggs had a funny look to them and had a funny taste too them. I asked for a to-go box to take our food to our dogs. The clear plastic booth dividers had smears of syrup on them, the floor was littered with some trash. We left saying how disappointed we where and probably would not be back. So much money invested on this place and it has to be operating at a loss. Went in for breakfast this last Sunday. Apparently everybody was thinking the same. Could not even find a parking place, plus there was over an hour waiting time just to get in to eat. Found out that they were understaffed. Lots of staff called in sick. ☹️☹️. New restaurant and some kinks are being worked out. Update: as of 19 Feb. 2021, all locations on the east side of I-35 must boil their water til further notice. Denny's is open but for call in orders and drive-thru. 🌹. September 25,2023. Things do change over time, especially during the day. Area is very clean, service is very good and food is great. New mgr and staff has really made a difference. Thank you Denny's. I now can say I recommend this restaurant especially for their breakfast. Update 16 Dec, 2023. Great food, especially breakfast. Food is very good. The service from the dining staff are excellent. They are there to make sure your orders are correct. The PROBLEM is the kitchen. Either not enough help to prepare the food, or they are just so slow the people get tired and just leave. So 😢😭. C'mon guys, great food, great service, excellent menu. But can't get the food out to the customers. 😜 . Update: Mar 17,2024. Had a combination of Breakfast and Appetizers today. I always go for my breakfast. Update: 25 September,2024. Stopped by to have their delicious Buttermilk Pancakes. Mmmm. They were short handed today. But all went well. Service and food was a 5⭐'s rating. Update: 23 November, 2024. Had a wonderful lunch today. Met the new General Manager too. The change is evident. Excellent service from the staff ( not a long wait for service). This is the Denny's I know. Get the family and go. You too will see the change to the better. So, me and my family had just visited this Denny's, and there was an employee that had been outside for an hour from 6:21 to 7:27. But that is not the main issue as later on after Maybe 45 minutes to an hour when we had gotten our drinks, my mother had found a chunk of algae in her cup of water. Which can make someone sick if ingested.

Moving on to when we had gotten our food they did not deliver my tortillas the first time around and we had let it slide, and then when everyone else had started to get their food my father found a wax paper in his omelette while my sibling who had gotten the wild Alaskan salmon had found a piece of plastic in it, and my siblings bread was dropped. When I started to eat my food my chicken had started to taste like salmon and it also had a rubbery texture, I had asked my father and my sibling to confirm by tasting the chicken and they did in fact say it tasted like rubber and salmon.

Both incidents had caused my mother who had yet to get her food to ask for the shift lead manager, and in doing such she had seen them making her food and they had left it on a counter before they even thought to deliver it while she was talking with the shift lead manager. The time my mom got her food it was cold and mushy.

Along with food delay, they had yet to clean up the four empty tables that were around us, two of them had people when we had first arrived, and before we left they had yet to be cleaned up.

The shift lead had insisted that she comp our meals when actually we wanted to pay for the meals instead.

We have been coming in to the Denny's for 2 years, we live three towns away, and in the past our meals did not taste like this or had any problems, and the service was amazing, we are sad that our current experiences are less desirable, and has altered our opinion of Denny's.
