Cool place in a fun area. Better than average pizza for the area, okay beer selection, fun place for kids to play, mad house when busy.
We went on a Saturday evening and it was very crowded. Our party had two babies and there only seemed to be three high chairs in the restaurant, so we had to use a booster seat (with an inscrutable buckle) for one kid. People and kids were constantly moving through. It's the name of the game at some places, but if it's not your thing, you might want to stick yourself in a corner while you're here. That said, the playground for the kids is great, probably especially for kids 4+. It's lined with a brick wall and covered in astro turf.
The pizza included a nice selection of traditional toppings (pepperoni, margherita, etc.) and specialties that mixed in Texan themes (tex-mex, brisket). It was closer to wood fired Italian style than anything else I've tried in the area, and the dough was very good. Looking at other reviews, it seems like sometimes they can be hit or miss, but my bet is that it will beat typical pizza chains 9 times out of 10.
You use a little fob associated with your credit card to scan on plackards by taps and get beer. It's nice because you are charged by the ounce, so you can try whatever you want--makes for a fun and different experience. I was surprised that so many of the taps were run of the mill stuff like dos equis and shiner bock. Otherwise, I was happy they had a decent selection of different brews, many from nearby, but I didn't happen to like most of what they had on tap. Only one of their three wheat beers was really any good, and none of the bocks, lambics, or pilsners was great. My taste won't be...
Read morePerfect for the whole family! Great food, a playground for the kids and a tap wall featuring beer, wine and cider. The pizza is wood fired and amazingly good. They even have keto bowls which is a super plus for me. The salads are delicious and the tap wall is super cool and because it’s self-serve, you never have to wait for your drinks. You place your food order on touch screens which I love. You are given a bracelet to use the tap wall. You use the bracelet to activate the tap you want to pour and to find out the price you’re paying per ounce. Pour as much or as little as you’d like. The prices are very reasonable for both the food and the drinks. Treno has super friendly and helpful staff and the place has always been clean when I go, no matter how busy it is. Indoor and outdoor seating is available with water misters outside to cool you off in this Texas heat. The playground outside is covered and offers plenty of space for the kids to run around while you enjoy your meal and some ice cold adult beverages. Did I mention there is a coffee shop attached to the restaurant?! I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but I will be back and will be trying it soon....
Read moreFor those that know me, I always support the "downtown" eateries no matter where I am. Your downtown area is a hidden gym AND when supported, can build and reflect a better city! This pizzeria is a great place for a "low key" date night OR a good place for daytime family fun. The 4 stars are merely because I just feel as though the food could be a bit better. I'm not a drinker and only went there for the food. The wings are supposed to be garlic parmesan. No. Just no. Don't ever try to "upscale" wings. They're a bar food and "we" like them as such. I was a bit disappointed but they were only the appetizer. My basic son had the cheese pizza and I had pepperoni with veggies. Not a fan of the dry spinach on top but all-in-all...it was good. The winning features are the selection of taps as well as the set-up for the drinkers, the play area (mini park) for the kids (well thought out), the two-sided restaurant and its open feel, and the coup de grace...the location my friends! Nice real estate in the downtown area. Get a sitter for the kids and just go have a peaceful night. Come right before the sun sets! I promise......
