Very easy access from I-30, great service and good ambience. The fried pickled jalapenos are over cooked/fried and over salted in the batter. My suggestion is the reduce the salt or go with no salt in the batter and don't over cook them. The side ranch sauce was OK. The border bowl with portabello mushroom could be better. The mushroom was great but the way the bowl is made, it could improve a lot. My best tasty bowl is from Chipotle. The side order Spanish rice and black beans in the Fajitas could use more cooking. Felt they are half baked/cooked. That's not usually the case at On the Border. Veggie Fajitas are very good. The veggies with portabello mushrooms are grilled the best way possible 👌. The tortillas could be better but overall enjoyed this to the fullest. The Sopapillas are OK. They could be little more fluffy and softer but are balanced with adding more Sugar😊. There honey🍯given on the side was tasting more like sugar syrup. Liked the changes and enjoyed the service in lieu of the COVID19 and appreciate the same very much from the management 👌👍.

If I could give this place a ZERO we would!! Absolutely HORRIBLE experience!! Our order for 3 adults was placed prior to others being seated. We received our orders AFTER other patrons arrived AFTER US. All of our orders was COLD once received. The restaurant wasn't any where near busy. It was a Sunday night at 10:07 pm and they close at 11pm. We requested a manager. The manager came to the table which also happened to be the person who delivered the cold entrees. We informed Fern (the Manager) about our issues with the food and he said he can take it back and "reheat it". We didn't go to that restaurant to wait 30 mins plus for cold entrées. He did not apologize, nor make any accommodations for the inconvenience. Who wants reheated food. He eem appeared delighted or happy with our issues with his sarcasm and grin. We felt dismissed and the situation escalated. We will NOT be returning to that resturant!! Pictured are the dishes that arrived cold.

Visited nlr location on 1/2/24 for happy hour. The queso was cold. I don't mean warm but cold. The dish it was served in was super hot so I guess they attempted to warm it up in the microwave and serve it to me hot but failed. It was so cold it was hard to scoop. I sent it back and it came back a little warmer than cold but not hot. At this point I was over it and just left it on the table. My bartender/server was amazing though and I had excellent service the whole time I was there. The only thing that made up for the horrible food was his drinks and service. I also had the firecracker peppers and they were too hot (temperature wise)to even eat but the #1 item sold there (queso) was given to me cold not once but twice. Their prices have gotten extremely high especially to be a Tex-Mex/ Mexican spot so I just feel like the food should reflect those prices.

I went into this warming establishment. The inviting scent of fresh tortillas filled the air, it was at that moment Hailey greeted me with a shining smile. She expediently sat me at my sparkling clean table. I've never experienced such high-class service. Matt introduced himself and brought me chips and salsa, it looked so delectable. He kindly informed me that my server Nikki was following shortly behind. She quickly took my drink and food order and I felt suddenly at paramount comfort. Not long after, Robert personally brought me my ice cold margarita, with an extra meltdown, just as my server Nikki suggested. He was such a down-to-earth guy, I almost felt at home. Would definitely recommend sitting at his bar top. I was enjoying my drink, when I smelt the aroma of sizzling hot shrimp fajitas. A fantastic server named Anthony hand- served my food and I felt at bliss. The food was warm and scrumptious. The best fajitas I have ever eaten to date. As I finished my meal, I remembered I had ordered a dessert, two caramel churros. As if it was by design, Hannah brought out my dessert; perfect timing! She brought out a warm bowl, the ice cream looking as creamy as it does in the commercials. I finished my dessert and my only complaint, I couldn't tip them all. This is single-handedly the best experience I've had at a restaurant.

To top it all off, the shift manager Ryan, visited me to ensure everything was going perfectly. I didn't know a manager could be so kind and thoughtful based off of my experiences elsewhere. I'm telling you, without visiting this establishment before, I know Ryan has a stout customer base. He brings a lot of business to that place alone.

Overall, go to On The Border in Texarkana and you will be treated...

We arrived 3pm and were seated with no silverware because they were just now washing silverware for the day. The server didn't know the menu as well as you should have as well as the drinks. It's not as attentive as she should have been. It was pulling teeth to get refills and we didn't see her for 20 minutes at a time. When she returned she said that she had an emergency to handle. We had no napkins and had to ask the hostess to grab us some napkins. We did not receive refills on our salsa and chips. She never asked if we needed anything. When we did receive our food there was not enough proportion on the fajita skillet for the price that it would set for. I also ordered shrimp tacos and 9 out of 10 of my shrimp had the shell still on them and we're deep fried and dressed and placed on my plate. We requested that the manager come for assistance but we had to ask the hostess because our waitress was not available. The manager handled the shrimp situation but not as professionally as they should have. He told me that the cook forgot to remove the shells and that I just got a bad batch of the shrimp. When my waitress return she told me that I guess the manager is handling your food situation. Then she asked me if I wanted another drink. At the end of our meal we sat and waited at least 10 to 15 minutes for her to return to give us the ticket and for to go boxes. She never came and again we asked the hostess to grab our tickets and our to go boxes. Somehow randomly our waitress arrived to save the day and give us our tickets. Needless to say this was less than satisfactory. I will not be returning to On the border...

As a Houston resident, my expectations from this place were not met. I actually thought it would be a great place to dine in after a long trip but it turned out to be more of a hassle than anything. The water and ice from here are from the tap and the glasses were not properly washed and smelled like dirty rags. The food in general was bland. To be honest, I've had better Mexican food from food trucks back in Houston and small restaurants in San Antonio. Even New Orleans and Miami have better Mexican food, and being in Texas, I expected a better quality. After several requests to our waitress in regards to my boyfriend's tea, she finally got it right. I understand it's a weekend and it was busy but from the beginning we had poor service. As a waitress myself from one of the top 100 restaurants in Houston that caters to oil and gas companies, top notch surgeons, celebrities, millionaires and regular common folk, I understand how overwhelmed you can get but the least you can do is get the drinks right. For future reference, get a water filter, make sure your glasses do not smell like dirty rags and serve your food hot, not lukewarm. I gave up on sending anything back because I was scared that it would come back worse. Definitely will not recommend this place to anyone. After hours of eating here, I can still taste the tap water and feel sick to my stomach. Very...
