We selected Mo's Irish Pub to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Planning for 2 adults and a 7-year-old sometimes has it's complications, but Mo's was advertising Irish dancers and other ALL DAY entertainment, so we thought the venue would be perfect. We left disappointed. I will break this review down as so many factors play a part in only giving them 2 shamrocks (stars). To start, I will say the service was great, especially since it was SUPER busy! We had one main server and a helper server. Both were very attentive and handled 2 special requests. I asked for kiddie Sprite to be green and I asked for some beads for him to wear. All smiles and they seemed happy to accommodate. Now on to the low rating items. ENTERING: I researched this place ahead of time. I looked at the advertised entertainment, hours, menu and reviews. We went early in the day and was encouraged since we saw a line. A line to me means people are flocking to this place because it's good... not always the case. The line was for the entrance fee and filing out the paper slip for a drawing. Only $5 per person (not children), but nowhere on their website was this advertised. That's a big no-no. It was packed and loud, which is not their fault nor am I rating them on that factor, so I was really surprised we found a table so fast. FOOD: The food didn't really seem Irish for an Irish pub. The names were Irish, but I wouldn't classify the actual food as Irish. Secondly, you could tell items were cooking in batches ahead of time instead of as ordered because everything was lukewarm at best. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer - barely warm, the Reuben - cold, chicken tenders - cold, and a kiddie burger - barely warm. I think the food could have been fairly good, but without the temperature accurate, it's hard to tell. The Jamison dip they make special in house is additional $0.50 per tiny cup. That was not explained when offered. ENTERTAINMENT: We heard the DJ playing and I saw a cornhole game going on outside on the patio, but that was it. No Irish dancers as advertised, nothing Irish like the website noted. I would have never suggested this place for us with a 7-year-old if I would have known the dancers weren't happening. The only mention of a time frame on the website was for a band later in the evening. As stated earlier, we arrived mid-day, so if the band has a designated time and the other entertainment is stated as "ALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY", why wouldn't I think they would have at least performed once during our visit?! Maybe we missed this in our 2-hour visit?? We even made a pass through the restaurant before leaving hoping we had somehow missed the dancers. $5 per person for cold food and no entertainment. Not impressed. I can't imagine I will venture to this place again. If I do and feel it worthy to update with more shamrocks, I will do so. Until then, I feel $63.59 (without tip) for the nonsense above is ridiculous. I still tipped our server 22% because I felt she personally did a good job. I normally would not rate a place on a holiday situation, but there were so many things that were not right, it was just too much to overlook. *Website advertisement attached to add validity...
Read moreThis is a new location in a section of I-10 & 99 that is still under construction as of this writing. The bar looks like every other version of Mo’s around town. The menu, however is smaller than other locations (Cypress, Vintage Park both have larger food and drink menus) The service...Well. We sat at the bar on a Wednesday night from around 5:30pm to 8:15pm. The bar was about 2/3 full at its busiest. It was steady for the dinner crowd, but not at any point would I call it “busy.” Our server got the drink orders consistently right, but as a rule of thumb, if your server doesn’t write your food order down they’re either a) really, really good, or b) terrible & the food order is going to be wrong every time. Guess which one it was? I find the breading on their fried food to be too thick; the ratio of batter to food is not right for my tastes. The food is also very salty (as you’d expect since more salt means you drink more.) The food was ok - my experiences at other locations had been better; I had the grilled cheese & tomato soup - that’s my usual - it was ok but I’ve had better from Mo’s.
Additionally, there was a weird situation in the bathrooms; men’s room had no attendant (as you’d expect in a bar such as this) but women’s room had an attendant...sort of. There was a young woman sitting on a stool looking bored, who didn’t say a word, and didn’t do the usual attendant stuff; the only time she spoke or moved was to point and grunt at the towel dispenser when I laughingly thought she was going to hand me a towel to dry my hands...but the tip jar was prominently out? If you’re going to have an attendant, have them “attend,” otherwise there’s just a weird loiterer on a stool in the ladies room. That’s not the bathroom ambiance I’m looking for.
It’s a new location so there will be growing pains...but I can only hope they work through those quickly. There’s too many other watering holes in that area that have good drink menus and decent food for this level of uneven service.
I’ll try it again one more time - I’m hoping the service issues & weird bathroom situation...
Read moreI have been a fan of this place since day 1 but it has been going downhill the last couple of years. I thought last year was the last straw. Details of that review remain below.
Tonight: 2 bartenders and about 8 people at the bar, about another 8 people total in the restaurant. We ordered spinach artichoke dip. About 25 minutes later we were presented with a plate of cold corn chips and an iron skillet containing almost entirely boiled spinach, dry and burnt around the top edges with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese and diced tomatoes. The server apologized profusely and he said he understood as we refused the order. We replaced it with onion rings. The server said "yeah, they shouldn't be able to mess that up". And yet what we received 20 minutes later was about 7 or 8 onion rings fused by fried batter into 2 big clumps of mess. After waiting with an empty beer glass for about 10 minutes, I called the bartender over for another beer. Both bartenders had walked by the empty glass multiple times at that point. I was hoping things had turned around here but sadly, it has not. An inspection of the restrooms revealed there has been no improvement in cleanliness there either. Mold and dirt on the air vents, accumulated dust on fixtures and surfaces. The food pictures in my review are from years past when the kitchen was much better run and consistent than currently.
From last year: Today might be the last straw. We were the first people to walk in at opening at 3pm on Monday. We were told by the bartender Guinness wasnt available and the taps hadn't been working since Saturday. The bathrooms were in a disgusting state with hair and algae growth in the sink, dirt and dust on the flushing fixtures, dirt and what appears to be mold on the air vents. Needless to say we left...
