Overpriced and poor selection. I was very disappointed in our visit to Sushi Yamazaki, as I was expecting something similar to, or better than, Sushi Tobi that was originally there. The menu is sparse and there are no images, or indication of how large portion sizes are. We ordered two miso soup ($4 each), one hamachi crudo ($15) and one spicy tuna maki ($7) and two hot sake. The waiter only brought one miso soup so we reminded him about the second one we ordered, he brought another dish before bringing the other miso soup (10 minutes later), so we had that awkward situation where food is in front of you, but you don't eat because you are waiting for the other person to get their food. The hamachi crudo consisted of six thinly sliced pieces of sashimi. The spicy tuna maki was a thinner version of a roll we get at other sushi restaurants. Fortunately they brought us a complimentary appetizer ($16) which had six small cubes of sashimi with a few cubes of watermelon. The quality of food is on point - melt in your mouth and fresh. Unfortunately the portion sizes compared to price is unacceptable. Music was also overwhelming - it just needs to be a bit quieter, nothing drastic. We will not...
Read moreWe ventured away from our favorite sushi spot to try something new and it was a disappointment. :( The restaurant itself is open, clean and welcoming. The service was actually pretty good as well. The food is a different story. While the flavor of the sushi/rolls were decent, the portion sizes are TINY for what you pay here. 4 tiny dumplings for $8, two tiny egg rolls for $7 and the sushi rolls were SO SMALL. I was thinking it, then my husband said it out loud. The tempura was over battered and gooey on the inside. It reminded me more of a beer battered fish/chicken. They need to lighten the batter to make it light and crispy like tempura should be. The icing on the cake for me was the $4.50 lemonade for my son. The menu specifically lists lemonade for $3.50 with the sodas, but when our check came there was a $1 syrup charge. I asked why that was on there. The server checked and said, "Oh...that's just management." We went ahead and paid it without further incident, but I prefer to spend my money somewhere that doesn't nickel and dime you to death for subpar...
Read moreThis is the best sushi in the highland village/flower mound/ Lewisville area. The food itself is very comparable to higher end sushi places that offer more obscure fresh fish options that you would normally find closer to the city. All their entrees are delicious and they change it up every so often. Tapas style feel with all the small plate options which are great for sharing. Chill atmosphere and top notch service! One of my favorites! Good for date nights and small adult groups. When it's just hubby and I, we like to sit at the sushi bar and just have them surprise us with whatever they decide to make us. Weve been coming here for years for good sushi. We prefer this over all the other places around here that are your basic run of the mill hibachi type restaurants that only offer your basic rolls and sushi options. If you have a more refined sushi taste come here. Oh and their himachi kama is...
