Been here many times and have always enjoyed the creative, chef inspired menu, however, today was a different day. Ordered the Calamari and Shrimp and unfortunately, the Calamari was obviously from Sysco, or some other food distributor. No tentacles, just pre-cut strips of fried calamari that were not crisp at all. In fact, I told my server(s) they were quite limp and held one up to show them. (They offered to replace it, but I just requested that they tell the fry cook who was on duty.) The menu used to be promoted as "chef inspired" or "chef created", but this was definitely not the case- just frozen calamari that was less than impressive. There are so many other restaurants to choose from in Flower Mound, but Shoal Creek Tavern, in my opinion and in spite of its high prices, is just another restaurant serving frozen food - sad, because when the first opened, they had a great menu and creative, unique dishes. Now, it's seemingly just a notch above Chili's. BTW, I dined there around 2:00 in the afternoon on a weekday, which is notoriously known as a "bad" time to visit a restaurant. Now I know why. They have great ambiance, good service and good music, but those things do not make up for poor food quality. I also noted that the pricing on the dinner menu and lunch menu was not consistent; I understand that dinner pricing is typically a bit higher, but in this case, the lunch Calamari and Shrimp cost more than the dinner version - typo? Perhaps, but sloppy marketing, nonetheless. Next time I decide to "treat" myself to a nice restaurant that is not "run of the mill," I will...

Shoal Creek Tavern, nestled in the kind of suburban sprawl where restaurants must court both casual diners and the illusion of upscale indulgence, delivers neither.
The ribeye—an aspirational cut meant to drip with richness and seared to perfection—was anything but. Instead, it arrived in a state of existential confusion: patches of raw flesh interspersed with the desiccated remains of what had once been meat. It bore the scars of a grill that runs either too hot or too cold, an open flame seemingly ungoverned by the hand of a competent cook. It tasted of carbon and not much else. Even a discount grocery store steak, kissed by the lowly embrace of a cast-iron pan, would have offered more solace.
And yet, the greatest mystery of Shoal Creek Tavern isn’t its mismanaged grill, nor its deeply uninspired service, but the glowing reviews that litter the internet like breadcrumbs leading nowhere. On a Saturday night, the dining room was eerily empty—a void where the hum of satisfied customers should have been.
At these prices, a meal should at least hint at the pleasures of fine dining. Instead, what arrived was the culinary equivalent of an over-promised, under-delivered handshake. Shoal Creek Tavern demands the tab of a steakhouse and delivers the experience of an off-night at a chain restaurant whose best days are long behind it.
One visit was enough....
