I am always excited to try out a new restaurant and support local business owners. Sip + Savor is particularly exciting because I actually know the owners through my work as a volleyball coach and LISD teacher. Scott and Jenn have asked me to write a review in the past but I kept putting it off and then forgetting. However, last night's visit prompted me to write a review. To prove that this is a legitimate review, I will also add a few comments that might be considered negative.
First of all, I love the ambiance of the restaurant. It feels like an upscale boutique to me. I love how new and clean everything looks and feels. Most people would worry that they should dress up (and Jenn probably wants you to) but people come in wearing casual clothing all the time. I always wear running shoes and I don't feel underdressed.
The menu is designed to be paired with wine, but I don't drink. The special events don't appeal to me for that reason. I would love to come in for a fancy set-menu event, but I don't want to pay for a beverage that I won't drink. If you enjoy wine, this restaurant needs to be at the top of your list. Jenn is passionate about wine and her manager, Jesus, is very knowledgeable. Yesterday, my mother-in-law wasn't sure what to drink so Jesus brought her 3 different samples and offered to bring 2 more before she decided on just water.
I have gone to Sip + Savor at least 5 times since they opened. We usually have brunch, we have never had a bad meal, and we have never had bad service. My friend told me that the Hot Honey Chicken + Waffles was the best he has ever had (he seems to be a bit of a connoisseur of chicken and waffles). By the way, his wife told me that the Duck Breast on the dinner menu was the best she has every had. That dish is next on my list to order. Back to brunch though...My family always orders the Fritto Misto plate but I don't get very much of it. I wish it had larger portions because it's gone before I get a chance to try it. We don't love the shishito peppers on there, but I can't remember why. Good ones are hard to find lately. This brunch has a special touch on every plate and the delicate flavors blend so well together. I always leave full AND satisfied because of the flavors.
Here is the important part of this review, if you don't typically order pork from a restaurant because it's always too dry and tough, you can stop looking for a good pork chop. Sip + Savor has the best pork chop that I have every eaten. During a recent volleyball game, I asked Scott (the owner) what his favorite dish was. He recommended that I try the Double Chop. I told him that all pork chops were too dry and he encouraged me to try this dish. Last night, I ordered it and could not believe just how tender it was. I will never order or eat a pork chop unless it's from Sip + Savor (or prepared exactly how they do it). You will not be disappointed. The brussel sprouts on my plate were too spicy for me, but I am a wimp when it comes to spice. Our table also had the spicy shrimp rigatoni (so awesome), the 2x burger (my son loved it), and the steak sandwich (not my favorite because the steak is cut into pieces). The french fries are shoestring, I think, and every single fry is my favorite fry. I love it when that happens.
To summarize: people who cannot find a good pork chop need to try Sip + Savor. It will be the best Double Chop you have ever eaten; people who like wine and other unique beverages need to try Sip + Savor; people who want a restaurant that is upscale, but welcoming, need to try Sip + Savor; people who want to support a local Flower Mound/Highland Village family need to try Sip + Savor; people who want the best Hot Honey Chicken + Waffles need to try Sip + Savor; people who want the best duck breast dish need to try Sip + Savor; people who want to hold an event with plenty of parking, wheelchair accessibility, good spirits, and an attentive staff need to contact Sip + Savor.
Sorry this review is so long. I should have written my reviews...
Read moreUpdate May 2024: we keep coming back here, especially for birthdays. Shout out to the crew who work here. I added a note to our online reservation asking them to wish my wife a happy birthday when we got there. See the picture of the card they made for her! I've literally never experienced this level of personal touch at a restaurant before! This place is just the best. I highly recommend the bison bolognese. The crab cakes were almost all crab. So, so good.
My wife Yoanna saw the place being set up this weekend so when we saw it was opening this week we had to try it. Let me just say: we were absolutely wowed from the very beginning. First note: the service! Hostesses were able to seat the two of us right away, but get this: while they were setting a table up for us, another member of the staff hustled up to us at the hostess stand to make sure we had been served. We went right to our table, which was a lovely two-top half-booth. The ambiance was very intentionally eclectic and we enjoyed the vibe. The table layout was just the right balance of "active" but not "crowded". Our server, Claire, was a joy. Very knowledgeable of the menu, and was able to recommend some drinks. I've unfortunately forgotten the names of them, but the first round was their take on a margarita -- simple but powerful! Perfect amount of tajín on the rim -- and the one with Sazerac rye in it. I really enjoyed the effect of the rosemary on that one. They clearly understand flavor combinations here, but more on that in a bit. Second round was their take on an Old Fashioned -- one of the better takes I've had, and it's usually my go-to. And you can see it had some of the clearest ice I've ever had! Wife had the one with ginger and shishito pepper in it. Delicious!
For our food, we weren't terribly hungry so we split the charcuterie board. Let me say again: wow! Wonderful flavor combinations. The pork belly was especially top-notch, and the sausages were delicious. The pickled vegetables sure packed a punch, but I loved them! And like i said, they really seem to understand how flavors match up. Every item seemed to complement every other item. Highly recommended.
Back to the service: Claire was perfectly attentive: there when we wanted her, but otherwise not at all intrusive. She and the rest of the staff we encountered were incredibly friendly and happy to help us. In a time when many restaurants are struggling for staffing, it was great to see a full, attentive, and enthusiastic ensemble. We briefly chatted with Joshua (the service manager, I think?) and Jenn (co-founder) toward the end of our visit, and were left with a great sense of warmth and hospitality!
We will be back. Can't wait to try some of the other food items, and more of those great cocktails!
Update: we returned for my wife's birthday, 5/4/23. Whipped Goat starter, she got the bolognese, and I got the Ahi. Every dish was amazing! Our server, Fletcher, absolutely nailed it and helped steer us in the right direction (wife ordered the Ahi, he warned her it was spicy, and she's a Bad Mexican so she switched to the bolognese and I got the Ahi instead. Win/win!). He gave us some drink recos that were also a perfect...

I’ve been told I have the palate of a ‘supertaster’ (whatever that means 😜) I’m also a foodie and a visual designer, so basically that means I like to eat delicious food, surrounded by pretty things…and Sip and Savor over delivered on both!
When you enter in through their gorgeous double doors you’re immediately transported to a different world. Picture it: a pink neon sign, vintage furniture paired with modern, unique art, bubbling laughter, an open kitchen and a sprawling designer bar. It is simply quite breathtaking.
My husband and I were greeted with warmth and we were seated immediately. (We made reservations which I highly recommend - but it’s not required!)
We started with their calamari which was absolutely perfect! Light, crispy, flavorful. 10/10. We ordered drinks and… well… because I have pink hair I couldn’t pass up their frozé. DELICIOUS 10/10. (Seriously the best frozé I’ve ever had.)
My husband had the burger and it was cooked perfectly - we were both amazed at the side fry serving size. So generous! Usually fancy places skimp on the sides. Not this place.
I opted for a pasta - forgot to take a picture because it smelled so gosh-darn good! I immediately chomped into it and it was halfway gone before the thought crossed my mind. 😂🙈 10/10
Dessert was their dreamy strawberry cake. 🍓 Guys. I’m telling you… you can SMELL the strawberries before you even see the dessert! 😍😂💕 It’s that good! I’m not sure what they drizzled over it… but I have literal DREAMS of eating this cake again. And even my hubby liked it! (He typically skips dessert.) 1,000/10 🤤
I don’t always have to use the restroom but I heard from the grapevine that their bathroom was incredible. (One of my friends had lunch with them JUST TO SEE THE BATHROOM!) 😂😂 So… yeah, definitely visit the restroom. It’s SO PRETTY. 😍 The bathroom stall doors are magnificent. The whole bathroom is just a work of literal art. It’s a vibe. 10/10✨
Overall? 100/10… perfect for any special occasion, girls night out, dinner with the love of your life or a first date… or even just because. We live in McKinney and drove 45 minutes one way just to get here, and we will happily do it again super soon!
If you live close by, I’m super jealous of you… if you don’t and you’re like me? Make the journey. Do it! It’s soooooo worth it! We love you...
