PLEASE READ THIS AND OTHER REVIEWS BEFORE CONSIDERING. If I could give ZERO stars I would. I wish I had read reviews beforehand. There have been others who received the wrong cake, experienced poor attitude and unprofessionalism, showed up to their tasting only to be told it wasn't booked when it was, etc. Your wedding planning experience with any vendor should be a pleasant one.
Our first experience with Wedding Cakes by Tammy Allen was at the Bridal Extravaganza and we fell in love with the melon cake. We then went to their open house event which was described as a cake tasting but it was a mini bridal extravaganza with their select vendors, and the cake was hidden in the back and by request only. That should’ve been our first sign that their business was shady. I spoke with Tammy Allen herself at the event and informed her of my intention of using a fake display cake and buying sheet cakes, expressed interest for a dessert bar with them, and asked her how to proceed. She replied that the next step would be to book an appointment for a tasting through their website. I booked it, paid the deposit, and received a confirmation email. The subject for which stated, “Thanks for Booking your Tasting & Consultation!” and the heading read, “You're booked! Hi, Your appointment is all set.” We arrived approximately 15 minutes early to our appointment. The doors were locked and the man who answered seemed confused as to why we where there. He was polite. He brought us in and gave us water. Then we sat for 22 minutes before anyone acknowledged us again. Tammy Allen greeted us at 1:37p and immediately accused us of not booking the appointment. She implied that we were confused, even though we showed her the confirmation email that clearly stated we were booked for that time and date. Tammy then deflected all accountability and stated her online portal did not email her regarding this and because she didn’t receive an email, it didn’t happen, regardless of the fact that the deposit had been withdrawn from my account and I had an email confirming it was booked. She then said the email is not a confirmation of my booking even though “You’re booked!” was written verbatim and it had details of my paid deposit. My fiancé and I are very understanding, have worked in the service industry for many years, could understand the error on their part, and were willing to move forward at the time. However, Tammy Allen never apologized, she refused to accept any accountability, and was instead needlessly accusatory and offensive. She then stated she would not make sheet cakes for us if we opted to get a fake display cake. I recounted my previous conversation with her when I had informed her of my intentions and was told to proceed by booking the consult/tasting. I would have considered obtaining a fake decorative display cake from her, but the overwhelming LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM and LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY was more than my fiancé or I could stomach, so we left. She had taken our deposit, wasted our time, and blamed us for the error on their part regarding the appointment.
We DO NOT RECOMMEND her to anyone who values their time and hard earned money. I should have read reviews before booking the appointment. There is indeed an immense lack of communication and lack of respect from Tammy Allen...
Read moreI met this vendor, today at the Bridal Extravaganza. She was passing out samples of her cakes. Bottom line, the samples were dry and nothing special. More importantly, is what I saw happen to a Bridal Party standing ahead of us. They were rudely told that samples were given to the Bride, only. When one of the Bridesmaids asked for a single sample for their child in attendance, she was rudely told “no”, then the vendor looked to the line of potential customers and made a face reflecting her annoyance and disbelief. It appeared she was looking for our understanding and support. I couldn’t believe she was willing to offend other Brides, their Bride Tribes, Mothers and Family Members-all of which are HER potential customers! Who does she thinks influences the Bride!!! In many cases, the MOB & FOB are paying for that cake she’s trying to sale!!! Why would she want to offend or leave the people influencing the Bride, out of the sampling!!! Clearly this business is in financial distress, as a person interested in generating revenue would be an expert at “customer service” and engaging their potential clients…, and the people that influence their decisions! As for me, I was disgusted and horrified! My daughter is having a traditional wedding, with all the bells and whistles. I NEED multiple cakes, as they will be the centerpiece for multiple events; The Engagement Party, Bridal Shower, Bachelor/Bachelorette Party, Mother’s Tea, Father’s Whiskey & Cigars, Bridesmaid Luncheon, Grooms Fishing Trip, The Rehearsal Dinner, The Grooms Cake & THE WEDDING CAKE!!!! She had access to every person influencing that Bride or the individuals that were in charge of any given event! Call me crazy, but I believe it is in a vendors best interest to engage with everyone and generously sample your product! OR DON’T DO IT AT ALL! Most cake vendors simply displayed their cakes. I can only imagine the nightmare and conflict of how a mishap would be handled. Despite wanting all TX businesses to prosper-when a vendor resorts to arguing and humiliating a Bridal Party over a few spoonfuls of cake, I wouldn’t risk my event or my sanity, using this vendor. I hope someone can explain, the pennies she is fighting to save have probably cost her...
Read moreNestled in the heart of Copperfield, you will find Tammy and Nate Allen and their eponymous bakery. I've known the Allens for many moons as our paths have intersected numerous times professionally, and she has spent the time honing her sweet craft. Working as a banquet manager at a venue in Northwest Houston, Tammy is always prompt AND patient while waiting to deliver her edible art when our ceremonies inevitably run a little behind while the space is being transformed for the couple's reception. If her company is included in the vendor's information for a booking, I can rest assured the cake will be punctual and fabulous! As I am "in the business," I've had the privilege to enjoy many wonderful Houston bakeries and she is one of the absolute best. The crumb of her cake is a little more dense, think closer in style to a pound cake. As such, it seems to fare better in the chilling process required to ice tiered cakes and the flavor is divine. Recently, my parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and we chose Tammy Allen Cakes to design and execute our perfect finale. The cake was simple and elegant with a gold ombre motif in buttercream rossettes and a bejeweled monogram adorning the top tier. Her pricing for tiered cakes is quite reasonable vis a vis other vendors. She appears to be a little more pricey for smaller orders if you need your TAC fix, as I recently booked her confectionary talents for a smaller birthday bash, but the cake and cupcakes were delicious and exquisite replete with sparkling buttercream (quite pretty when festooned by glowing birthday candles). Possibly because she is a custom bakery only, so everything is "made to order." They do not currently have a case with on demand goodies, but are definitely willing to work within a shorter timeline. It is a joy to work with Tammy on behalf of any occasion, and her custom creations offer exceptional value as...
