Sadly the food was not good. And definitely not worth the price. This was my second time going and while I was underwhelmed the first time I thought I would try them again because they do have a fried cauliflower that is delicious and everyone can have an off night. I ordered that and while the flavor was great like before, the cauliflower wasn't cooked all the way through. My main dish was a parmesan encrusted chicken with what was suppose to be capers and a lemon sauce with veggies and mashed potatoes. None of it was good. The chicken was the "best" thing on the plate. The sauce tasted like a mustard sauce with no taste of lemon. Which was disappointing but the chicken was cooked perfectly with a very nice parmesan crust and there were definitely capers with every bite. So apart from the sauce not being as described it was good. That being said, the mashed potatoes were the worst potatoes I have ever had. Water logged with no flavor but also with chunks of not totally done potatoes in them. I actually sent them back because they were so bad. After having my dinner partner try them she was shocked at the poor quality too. They then offered me a different choice so I chose their potato salad. It definitely was not a traditional potato salad which is fine, but there were rubbery and chewy pieces of something we couldn't identify in it. Neither one of us could eat it. And lastly my veggies, they had been sauteed in butter but instead of the nice seared that you can have on them when sauteed at a proper heat, they were just grease logged with no flavor. I don't believe salt was used in preparing any of the dishes, which, while I can understand should probably be stated, or an option given. With the cauliflower appetizer coming to over $18 and the meal coming in over $22, this isn't a place I will be returning to anytime soon. The food quality and price just don't work for me,...
Read morethis place desperately needs Gordon Ramsey!
We were not expecting too much- no fine dinning, but the place has a 4.4 on google so we thought we’d give it a try - Big mistake! It should be a 1.5 on google
We walked in and there was a very loud off key singer playing a guitar, it was hot so we had wanted to sit in the AC but there was no way to hear a conversation so we moved outside into the heat (yeah it was that off key and that loud that 90 degrees was a better option)….
There were 3 of us and 2 of the entrees where just not at all in the realm of decent. We sent back the steelhead fish (burnt to a hot oil crisp see photo- yeah that really is what they served!) only to have a second one show up just as over cooked not even able to cut with a knife it was so dry and the outside hard. The pulled pork nachos for some unknown reason were smothered in thousand island dressing (which isn’t mentioned in the description) again not eaten….My turkey wrap was good but I ended up giving half my wrap to a friend who’s meal was uneatable.
The waitress Alyssa, was very considerate and more than a bit embarrassed about the quality of the food she had to serve. When we weren’t eating the entrees (it was obvious why!), she asked her manager to at least take one entree off - but he (Matt the manager) refused and instead offered a 10% discount- geeze thanks Matt.
My advice is AVOID- go to Taco Time at least there you’ll get a standard mediocre food where here there is no standard- just a poorly done hot mess that I wouldn’t feed to our dog (we didn’t take what we didn’t eat)-
Please know I don’t in general write reviews of restaurants if they are just so-so, it’s a hard industry to make a go of, but this place is beyond just so-so- it’s bad to the point it does not deserve to survive the lack of care and ability in...
Read moreWe decided to try The Bargeway Pub today for the first time. They've done a first rate job of redecorating and have a very nice selction of beers on tap. Their food and beer prices are very reasonable. The space is a bit cavernous, and there is a constant very loud din from conversations, which I'm OK with, because it adds to the classic Pub atmosphere. My wife ordered the cod fish and chips, and they were excellent. The fish was lightly breaded, and cooked perfectly. The salt & pepper french fries were among the best. I ordered the bangers & mash, and I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. We've had the real thing on numerous occasions in England, Ireland and also at some of our favorite pubs in the Portland area, and these were nothing like the B & M that I've come to love. The traditional bangers & mash normally come with a mound of mashed potatoes topped with the bangers (sausages) and caremalized grilled onions, with it all being topped with a rich, tasty, brown gravy. Bargeway's sausages were tasty enough although not quite like the traditional, but they sat atop what I suppose were mashed potatoes, but were watered down with some sort of white gravy with bits of green onion. The consistency of the potatoes was more like potato soup than actual spuds, and it all seemed a bit heavy. The service was excellent, and the owners both came around to check on their guests. I certainly will return, but next time I'll probably order the fish and chips or one of the tasty looking burgers I saw go by. They've only been open 3 weeks, so I think they've done very well overall. They do need to research the bangers & mash to make them...
