An unassuming exterior with early Skipper's ambiance; you wouldn't know this was a gourmet asian restaurant by it's looks. We ordered the dinner for two. An array of sauces first appeared, then the egg flower soup with vegetables, satisfyingly thick and savory. Next the appetizers: The barbecue pork slices were fragrant, thick and tender; appeared to be house made. We usually shun crab Rangoon but these fried dumplings were big and crunchy and stuffed with the most tasty filling. Amazing. The spring roll was outstanding with fresh al dente vegetables, delicately spiced. They appeared to be house made as they were NOT your typical food service frozen spring rolls. The entries were huge; about 20 pieces of crispy fried boneless chicken thigh/breast pieces swimming in a very generous ladle of delicious orange sauce (orange chicken). The heaping plate of BBQ pork chow fun had bean sprouts, julienned semi crunchy onions, celery, and carrots with pan fried noodles in a very tasty sauce with generous slices of the bbq pork. Could be the best we've had and we've been around. Another best thing for us: they have Tsingtao beer, icy cold, fresh and crisp. The staff was friendly and attentive. Try this place, we'll...
Read moreWe order from here fairly often. First and foremost the customer service is outstanding! In a world where customer service is a lost art, they are a breath of fresh air. We usually order to-go and they are always so pleasant and accommodating. Not a phone call I fear making like most other restaurants between here and Portland. We especially love their version of hot and sour soup. It's perfectly spicy and they don't skimp on the good stuff that makes it a soup with some substance. We have tried a lot of their dishes and they are all decent to darn good. It's perfect American Chinese food as I call it. It reminds me of the Chinese food I used to eat as a kid when really the only Chinese food you could get was this kind but it wasn't always this good. They are consistent and don't have a stupid "no msg" sign. I officially recommend their hot and sour soup, beef lo-mein, sweet and sour pork, sesame chicken and kung pao chicken. Be good to them people of The Dalles or all you will left with is the rude kids and long lines at the next...
Read moreIt is a strip mall Chinese restaurant, the menu is pretty standard. The food was average. The ambiance was drab and dated. The fish tank at the entrance is pretty sad.
The bathrooms were clean, but worn. Parking was okay for cars. The staff let a customer know that their truck had been backed into in the parking lot and seemed concerned for the customer.
The food and menu is pretty average for this style of restaurant. The spring roll was vegetable, not to greasy. The egg drop soup was really yellow and had peas, carrots, and corn, a few dumplings would have been a passable chicken soup. The fried rice with a little pork was okay, I didn't eat most of it and used it to make fried rice for breakfast. The Lo Mein had some beef in it. It was a bit dry for the tiny pieces and lacked a flavor other than wok.
The sweet and sour pork was mostly breading and over cooked, as per usual.
The restaurant met my expectations and reminded me why I...
