Ooh Wee Gourmet — Restaurant in Thornton Township

I made a trip to River Oaks to support the Black owned business Ooh Wee Sweet Tea today (June 17, 2022).

The customer service is horrific! I’m surprise that they are still open. The service personnel is rude and have no customer service skills. They react as though the customers are an inconvenience. I asked is I could sample the Obama tea because my friend was raving about it. The man behind the counter reluctantly gave me a sample. I ordered my food and jokingly said that I was would need a cup of water because the tea was too sweet for my palate. He said we sell water bottles. Very dry and unpersonable. Fortunately, the food was decent. Before we left the desolate mall, I asked if I could have some ice added to the cup from the tea that I have purchased. I was told that I would have to pay for the ice…I wasn’t asking for another cup or a refill of my tea, just some ICE!! Ridiculous!! My friend had eaten at other Ooh Wee restaurants and we came based on previous pleasant experiences. I will never support this restaurant again. Inside River Oaks Mall. I've visited this place several times. The burgers, fries and rice bowls (especially with the jerk chicken) are all phenomenal. The customer service is decent but could definitely use some fine tuning. Today I anticipated trying the jerk chicken sandwich, and as I was stepping to the counter, the cook was headed back into the kitchen. There were other people back there and he never made any of them aware that I was waiting to place an order. How rude! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, IT’S TERRIBLE!! I went to this location on State Street back in August of this year, everyone raved about how good everything was. Unfortunately, the best thing to me was the pot roast. So, I pass by the location in Calumet City and decided to give their pot roast dinner a try….worst decision ever!!! I paid $20.92 for the dinner. The roast was overcooked and seasoned poorly, the rice tasted like microwaved rice out of a bag, the candied yams appeared to me, as canned yams topped with white sugar and popped in the oven to give the allusion of baked yams.
