Me and my wife are originally from Utah and grew up eating at Cafe Rio. I have never had a bad experience till I came to this Thousand Oaks Location. We showed up and there was 20 plus people working in the back with 5 customers and the line still took 20 minutes for us to order. Then when we get to order the food the girl making the tortillas was making them too thin that you could almost see through them. Then the guy making the tacos kept breaking the shell and moving slow. They next person in line was throwing on cheese and lot of it without asking what kind of cheese or if we would like any at all. I know that’s not a big deal but every other cafe rio does. Then she coated the grill in a layer of oil so thick that bugs could swim in it, and she walked across the room holding cheese in her hand then putting on tortillas(that’s very unsanitary considering there’s a deadly virus in this state). Then we got our rice and beans and paid, when we sat down and ate, the taco shells where so oily from the lady putting the cheese & oil on them, made it not enjoyable. Then the beans & rice were cold. I know I didn’t wait to eat them cause that was my second bite of food. I am seriously disappointed with this location. I even told my wife that it was so bad I’m considering never eating at another cafe rio ever again. Very disappointed with the service and the quality of food, it should not be served like that...
Read moreWhen you're in the mood for some sweet pulled pork, this is the place to go. They have a specific take on Mexican food that just hits the spot, just like In N Out, The Habit, or Five Guys have their take on burgers that satisfies a specific taste. Their location is always clean and staff is great. We've been here many times and they're really good with producing quality meals with fresh ingredients. They can recreate the same meal time after time with the same consistency each time you go. The only variance that I've ever really seen is that the "hot" sauce sometimes has a little more or less kick than other times - It's always good though. If you're going for the first time, these are two of my favorites: the Sweet Pork Burrito, "Enchilada style" and the Sweet pork Salad with extra pico de gallo. The reality is that no matter what you get, you'll be...
Read moreNo clear signage on where to start to order. All of the staff saw us walk towards the register and not one person told us to order where we were supposed to order. Someone else that came in after me, beat me to the spot. I asked the girl at the register who was wearing clear rimmed glasses if that person would be helped ahead of me and she said, “I don’t know” and walked away. I was told the two taco combo with beans rice and a drink was $6 but I was charged $8.99. No clear signage that carne asada is $1.98 more. I was not told that the 2 ounce House Dressing was going to cost extra before I ordered it. I was charged $1.38 for it. To top it all off, I fat fingered the tip option and accidentally approved a 10% tip that they clearly did not deserve. I wanted to pull my hair out. I will definitely not...
